I can also ping from Samba PDC the WinXP machine. 4. I’ve already disabled the WinXP Personal Firewall Settings. 5. The WinXP in the laptop is freshly installed with the default workgroup membership as “WORKGROUP” you have to tell windows that it belongs to a domain now. I have no windows machine here, but it should be something like this: right click on my computer, properties, computer name. then click on change, select domain and enter your new workgroup name and hit enter. The windows will ask a password, here it wants a Admin user from your samba PDC! 6. The Samba PDC is supposedly be the Authentication, File and Print server. you will also need cups if you want to print. 7. Pag nag “testparm” ako lahat naman ok at running ehm... [Samba] Two PDC in one Network (NT4 + Samba 3)
I have installed a Samba 3 server to run as PDC in parallel with the old NT4 server. They both use different Domain names and netbios names. the NT server uses NT-SERVER as netbios name and INTERFACE as workgroup. The new Samba server uses IFDOMAIN both as workgroup and netbios name. When I try a smbclient -L //IFDOMAIN/ it's not working read_socket_with_timeout: timeout read. read error = Connection reset by peer. protocol negotiation failed when I turn the NT server off and try it again, then it works. I don't quite understand why since they shouldn't have any problems because of the differing names but unfortunately it seems that it does bother somehow. Is there a way to have the old NT server also running until all users are moved to the new server? [Samba] Big problem with Profiles being deleted
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Please, help :) Something is driving me mad! I have just replaced a NT4 PDC with a Samba 3 PDC, migrated the users and everything works fine except of two problems first, the big problem. A user can sign in just fine on winXP or Win 2000 and the profile is being downloaded from the samba PDC, but as soon as the users logs out the profile is being deleted on the windows machine. I have no clue why it is doing this! the second problem, the XP machines take much longer then the Win2000 machines on the NT4 server the signon is quite fast. After it copies the profile (no action on disk anymore) the XP machines are doing something, no idea what it is doing, but it does it for quite a while and it just displays the screen after the loginpromt Userdate is being... not 100% sure how the messages look on a english windows. Hope my mail is readable, almost didn't sleep 24 hours, so sorry if there are a lot of typos. - -- Cristian Livadaru http://livadaru.net -BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE- Version: GnuPG v1.4.1 (Darwin) iD8DBQFGKVKcJ3lv8BSSgqARAlkLAJ9sEWcQ5sm91m2LSiH28v0mttMOmgCfXz6l lIzKCtZsNCSN2d9QYNFo7SE= =WqCH -END PGP SIGNATURE- -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
[Samba] printing on windows domain printer
Hi, I have set up a red hat linux box and used winbind to connect it to the existing windows NT domain of our company. well everything works fine, user can log in and mkhomedir creates a home directory at the first login. but I still have one problem how can I manage it that the user can print something useing his own username and password. at the moment I have set up the printer to use the windows share but the problem is that now everybody that prints something from the linux box prints with my name. at the moment only 2 people are using the linux box but if all developers will use it in the future it will be a bit complicated to find his print outs if every print has my name on it. hope you understand my problem and have any tips/doc's/howtos or anything for me. thx.
