[Samba] printer settings not sticking
I am using samba version 3.0.2a and cups version 1.1.17. I have a BDC setup with 14 printers. Two of which are Lexmark Optra T616's. I have setup the printer drivers and printer settings by browsing to the BDC and going to the printers folder and changing the printer's properties. This has worked for all of the printers except for one of the T616's. This one printer accepts the printer driver setting and I can change the options for it (eg Setting size of trays and other options), but after hitting apply and OK, and then bringing the printer properties backup, the options are reset to their defaults. I can't get this one printers options to stick. I figure it has something to do with one of the .tdb files. I have tried removing all the .tdb files under the printers directory along with the ntprinters.tdb file which seems to make if "forget" all of the settings for all of the printers. I have also deleted and readded the printer in CUPS, but when setting this one printer up again, I still can't get it to "stick". I'm flat out of ideas for things to try. Dan -- --- Daniel T. [Samba] Printing issues w/ 3.x
I am using Samba 3.0.2a on Redhat 9 with CUPS 1.1.17. Since upgrading from Samba 2.2.8, I have been having various printing issues. 1) When printing to an HP LaserJet 4 through Samba, if I collate multiple pages from Word, it will print all the pages on one sheet. So, if I was two copies of two pages, it will print pages 1 and 2 on 1 sheet twice. If I setup a TCP port in windows that goes direct to the printer and install the print driver locally, it will print fine. 2) Lexmark printers no longer seem to be printing PDF files from Acrobat Reader. Printing from other applications seems fine. On a T612, a message is displayed "900 Service RIP Software" and locks up the printer. On a T616, the printer acts like it is going to print, but never does. 3) When not logged into the domain, but using a username and password that is in a printer admin @group, I can no longer edit printer properties on the server. If I log onto the domain with the same username/password, I can. Under 2.2.8, I didn't have to be logged into the domain. Is there a parameter that I can change to get back the old functionality? Thanks, Dan -- ------- Daniel T. Re: [Samba] calculating passwords, and what to do with sambaLMPassword
I use mkntpwd to calculate LM and NT Passwords. It is in the examples directory. The source is in there, so if you are just interested in how, then you can look it up. [Samba] USRMGR add groups
I am running samba 3.0.0. When using USRMGR most functionality works, but I can't get it to create a group. If I run the script by hand, it creates the UNIX group and echos out the GID. In Windows the error message is: "The following error occured creating the global group groupname: The group name could not be found" The delete user and delete group functions work, but give an error in USRMGR of "Access Denied". After refreshing USRMGR the user or group is gone. My guess is I am echoing something back that I shouldn't be, or am not echoing something that I should be. Thanks, Dan -- ------- Daniel T. Re: [Samba] SetPrinter call failed
Ok, I finally figured out what the problem was. In case anyone has the problem in the future, here is what it was. I had the 'addprinter command' parameter set to cupsaddsmb (as I read to do somewhere), when I ran cupsaddsmb by hand, it would fail. Once I took the 'addprinter command' parameter out, it works great! On Mon, 2002-10-21 at 15:59, Daniel T. [Samba] cupsaddsmb rpcclient error
I am running samba 2.2.6 and cups 1.1.16. I can't get cupsaddsmb to complete successfully. I'm at an end here, I can't think of anything else to try after 2 weeks of searching the web. It copies the drivers to the print$ share directory, however the SetPrinter command fails on the rpcclient command and it returns with an NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL error. At the SetPrinter failure, it returns an WERR_ACCESS_DENIED, but I'm not sure what permissions it's looking for or where it wants them set. Re: [Samba] SetPrinter call failed
I saw something about that before, what would the absolute path be for a network printer? In anycase, does the rpcclient setdriver command use that? Plus, the commands work from the command line. Re: [Samba] SetPrinter call failed
Yes, I have Printcap /etc/printcap in the cupsd.conf file. And it is generating new printcaps. The printers are showing up fine in the samba browse list and I can print to them from the Linux box.
