[Samba] net use command with /savepw:yes option isn't working

2003-08-07 Thread Darin DeCounter
We're testing Samba 2.2.2 and when we map the shares (from a '95 client)
using the net use command with the /savepw:yes option, it doesn't retain
the password once you disconnect re-map the shares. Thanks for any
suggestions.

[Samba] Hiding shares and/or their contents from Windows Explorer

2002-11-27 Thread Darin DeCounter
Is anyone of aware of any known problems with Samba 2.2.2 and Windows 95,
dealing with hiding shares and/or their content from Windows Explorer? We
need to map these shares so our application can function properly...but the
shares and/or their content should never be accessible via Windows
Explorer. We have browseable = no for the shares. We also tried the
hideoption, but the user can simply change Windows Explorer setting to
view hidden files. It was suggested we consider poledit, but the option to
hide drives is all or nothing, meaning we'd have to hide C drive too
(which we don't want). I looked into TweakUI, but the changes are only
temporary and reset to original setting after restarting Windows 95. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

[Samba] hiding and vetoing files (for Samba 2.2.2 WindowsExplorer)

2002-11-15 Thread Darin DeCounter
We're running Samba 2.2.2 on an RS/6000 (AIX 4.3.3) using Windows 95
clients. We've tried the hide files and veto files option in smb.conf,
but when the shares are mapped, we can still see the contents in Windows
Explorer. We used the wildcard for all the contents of the shares (ex. hide
files = /*.*/). The Samba manual only makes reference to Windows 98, so is
this even applicable on 95? Once we test on 95 and implement, we'll be
upgrading to Windows 2000. If at all possible, we wanted to hide the entire
share on Windows Explorer (not just the contents, but we'll take what we
can get). Someone said when mapping, we could specify a $ at the end of
the share within the net use syntax and this would hide the entire share,
but it doesn't work and they were doing this on an NT system (so we're not
sure if Windows 95, 98 or 2000 even supports this). Thanks in advance for
any help.

[Samba] nmbd dies as soon as it's started

2002-10-22 Thread Darin DeCounter
As soon as I start up the daemons using the following commands, nmbd dies.

/usr/local/samba/bin/smbd -D
/usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd -D

When I view the nmbd.log it gives the following. We're trying to set up
Samba to work over 2 subnets. Smbd is ok and we can still mount our
shares. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks for any help.

[Samba] (no subject)

2002-04-16 Thread Darin DeCounter

On step #3 of the Diagnosis.txt (/samba/docs), when I issue 'smbclient -L
testsrv', it prompts me for a password. I just have to hit ENTER and it
displays all the shares like it should...but this step mentions nothing
about being prompted for a password. Why would I be getting the password
prompt? Thank you.
