Some auto-responders look at the to: field and if it's not directly sent
to the recipient's address (i.e. samba@lists.samba.org) then it won't
respond.

At least, Zimbra works this way.

I had the same experience, until I ran into an article that said for 1
share, use the name and for the other to use the IP address. I've been
using that for around 6 months now, it works.

If you're using just simple file sharing with authentication, then yes.

Connect the first share using the machine name, connect the second share
using the machine's IP address.

Just to confirm, I only need a WINS server if I have more than one workgroup?

When you have more then 1 subnet.

"MADMAN#03" 0 192.168.1.2 66R

Emilio,

Our static entry for our backup server looks like:

"BACKUPSERVER.COM#00" 0 192.168.100.15 44R

Re: [Samba] Extra sheet after printing a job.

2003-02-02 Thread Doug Lytle
Hi Erik,

Although I use CUPS, I had this problem while in Mandrake 8 & 9, I used
Webmin to locate the Samba server and found that the CUPS printer had
banner pages turned on. I turned it off and the 2nd sheet went away.
Dont know if this helps or not.

From the server if printing direct there's no extra paper

sheet.

I know the problem has been on the list before, and can also
see how to solve it, but there's a problem. From default the
SuSE 8.1 is installed with cups, and I wanted to install it
with LPRng.

The printers are printing ok from the server, and via samba
my printers are also printing fine. But here's the problem.

I print from a Fujitsu/Siemens C6155 Lifebook computer, and
whether I print via samba to either of the 2 printers, they
always stop a job by sending out an extra sheet.

In the archives there stands:

Uncommenting
#PRINT_RAW_SUPPRESS_FORMFEED="yes"
in /etc/apsfilterrc.

But due to my install of LPRng, I cannot find the
apsfilterrc.

What can I get rid of the problem ?.

Adrian,

I'm having the same problem when using the machine's IP, but using the
PCs network name, it works. Actually, it'll work on Win2k also when not
using the -L and the IP address.. You'll get the same errors, but it'll
connect. Win9x won't connect at all.

[Samba] BackupPC and Win9x Boxes

2003-01-28 Thread Doug Lytle
I am hoping someone here can help me.

I have several Win95/98/NT/2K boxes that i'm trying to provide a backup
solution for. I found BackupPC and got it setup. It uses Samba for the
communicaitons on the Windows clients.

The problem that I'm running into is that it requires access to the
clients via IP address and not network name.

This works fine for the Win2k boxes, but when it's applied to the Win9x
boxes, smbclient fails. Could someone point me to a workaround or a
fix. Or, should I find another package? Samba output below:

Running: /usr/bin/smbclient '\\192.168.101.125\MY DOCUMENTS' -U 'brenda taft' -E -N -d 1 -c 'tarmode full' -Tc -
session request to 192.168.101.125 failed (Called name not present)
session request to 192 failed (Called name not present)
session request to *SMBSERVER failed (Called name not present)
session request to 192.168.101.125 failed (Called name not present)
session request to 192 failed (Called name not present)
session request to *SMBSERVER failed (Called name not present)
tarExtract: Unexpected end of tar archive (tot = 512, num = , posn = )
tarExtract: Done: 1 errors, 0 filesExist, 0 sizeExist, 0 sizeExistComp, 0 filesTotal, 0 sizeTotal

Thanks in advance!
