Hi All,

When I tried to start the SMBD service it was saying not found, thanks
to this forum, I got answer, saying I should type
./ smbd

When I did that, I didn't get any error, it went to anohter line
(:/usr/local/samba/sbin)

But I don't why I'm not able to access the directory where my files are
resides.

When I typed ps -ef | grep smbd
it shows that the samba service was started yesterday (oct-26)but not
today(oct-27). I know that the service stop working yesterday !!

When I go in the log file (cat log.smbd) it tells me this

bind failed on port xxx socket_addr=0.0.0.0
Error = The socket name is already in use

Can anybody help with this

Thanks in advanced

[Samba] When trying to Samba (SMBD) it says not found

2005-10-26 Thread Edouard Ades
Hi All,

I tried to start the samba service (Smbd) but it tells me Not found no error
number or permission denied.
There was no update made on the box. I logged on as root
I went to good directory, usr/local/samba/sbin/
and typed smbd and I got

ksh: smbd : Not found

If I enter LS under the sbin directory, the smbd is there.
Also, if I enter LS -e le (to see the executable) it returns me smbd

I even made a search by enteringfind / -name smbd 2 /dev/null
and when the result came up it showed me the good path which is
usr/local/samba/sbin/

I'm new in the Unix / samba stuff, it's probably just a little thing that I'm
missing !!
So if anyone can help I'd really appreciate.

Thanks in advance

Eddy

[Samba] Question on Samba Service

2005-09-22 Thread Edouard Ades
Hi,

For no particular reason, my Samba service didn't start yesterday,
when I went to start it by going in the /usr/local/samba/sbin and then
typing SMBD I got an error
permission denied and something about the port 139 (sorry I don't have
the whole error message)

No changes were made on the box.

I started looking over the web and I found an something out something to
help me out on this issue.

This is what I found
Now, if you wish to use inetd to start the Samba daemons, enter suitable
lines in the file /etc/inetd.conf, such as the following:
netbios-ssn stream tcp nowait root /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd smbd
netbios-ns dgram udp wait root /usr/local/samba/bin/nmbd nmbd
swat stream tcp nowait.400 root /usr/local/samba/bin/swat swat

After editing the files, type refresh -s inetd.

Now my question is : Why commenting that out made from the Indetd.conf
works.
In other case why did I had to go trough this to start the samba
service,
is the samba sercie suppose to start automatically ?

Thanks for all your help

Eddy
