Are you sure? Running 'smbmount' says:

'This command is designed to be run from within /bin/mount by giving
the option '-t smbfs'. For example:
  mount -t smbfs -o username=tridge,password=foobar //fjall/test /data/test'

[Samba] Trouble with windows mounts after reboot of windows server

2006-06-22 Thread Evert
Hi all!

Am I the only one with this problem? I doubt it...

The problem is that I have a couple of shares of a W2K server mounted with
Samba on my (Gentoo) Linux. This works fine, until the W2K server gets
rebooted. After that the shares are just timing out,
and they are impossible to unmount/remount... :-/

How do I prevent/fix this problem?

[Samba] Obscure login problem with samba as PDC

2005-10-24 Thread Evert-Jan Duindam
Hey everyone,

I've searched through the archives and can find mention of the problem,
but haven't been able to track down an answer. The problem is as follows,
certain accounts can't login to the samba PDC server (can't login to the
domain, check your password error), while other accounts can. The mystery
becomes completely baffling to me when I look at the more recent PC's in
the network - all accounts work fine on the machines I have installed.
However, on the older PC's (all windows XP SP2), I can't login with
certain specific accounts - which do work on the newer machines. The only
difference I can conceive of between the newer and older clients is that
the old ones used to connect to the previous server, which was an old red
hat box of which I don't know the details, but studying the user info on
the older machines shows no discrepancies. The RequireSignOrSeal mod has
ofcourse been done.

I'm running a backports samba (3.0.14a-2woody1) from backports.org on a
debian machine (2.6.6 kernel). All the clients are winxp sp2. Any help
would be most appreciated.

If've found it.
I came across this page at http://www.unav.es/cti/ldap-smb-howto.html
where an administrator keeps his findings (I used the link for samba
3/head/samba 4).
One of the things it mentions is that an administrator account is needed
which has uidNumber 0 for unix.
That caused a smbd to be created with uid 0 which passed the test that
was failing.

I also set the digital signing of the channel in w2k, but I'm not sure
whether that's still required (my samba is somewhat newer than the one
he used).

So... the bug can be closed.
Or can it???

Why is it necessary to have an administrator for samba that has uid 0?
As long as the administrator has enough rights, according to the LDAP
database, I don't think there's a reason to it.
There's probably another bug in the database that is about this, now I
just need to find it and then it'll become a duplicate.

Thanks,

Jan,

I also ran into maybe similar problems, which i couldnt solve on
ubuntu(debian). The problem for me is that when the script is executed
on the command line/ '/usr/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w //"eduard-laptop$"'/
the following enviourment varaibles are set:

Eduard,
I don't think I have your problem, because it is smbd that is reporting
this.
Furthermore I don't have smbldap-useradd on this system (I use
ldap-accound-manager for this).

To be sure: I do not have a problem creating the user account for the
machine. I have problems joining the machine itself to the domain.

As far as I understand, the machine will set a password for itself and I
think that is what is failing.

I think I understand the reason now, but I'm not sure what to do next.
Apparently, when I attempt to join the machine to the domain, an smbd
instance is started with as the user that I gave (which is part of the
Domain Admins group). And of course this user is not root, so that
apparently is why it fails.

So... any suggestions what to do?

Thanks,
Jan Evert

[Samba] Samba PDC (3.0.14a) with LDAP cannot add machines

2005-09-06 Thread Jan Evert van Grootheest

Hi,

I am setting up a Samba PDC which uses LDAP for account information.
It is a debian installation with samba 3.0.14a and slapd 2.2.23 (I'm
also using ldap-account-manager, but I don't think that has anything to
do with this).

I have checked the release notes whether it might have been fixed in a
new release, but there's nothing I recognize that seems related to this.

The problem is that when I attempt to join a w2k machine (the first one,
actually) to the domain it reports 'Logon failure: unknown user name or
password'.

Samba, at the same time, reports in the logfile for that machine:

I don't understand this as smbd and nmbd are running as root, so why is
it complaining about not being root?

I am sure that there is no problem with the LDAP connection itself. It
is already used for unix authentication (using pam_ldap) and also on
this w2k machine I can browse (windows explorer) the shares on the PDC
using the same username/password used to join the machine to the domain.
So I guess that samba is getting information from LDAP just fine (the
logfile also shows this in other places).

I have a logfile with loglevel 10. I will not publish it on this list (I
think it is too much), but I can share sections with interested developers.

If there is other information that is useful, please just ask.

Has this been fixed already and did I miss it in the releasenotes?
Is there a work-around that I can use?

This has been filed as 3064 with the samba bugzilla.

Thanks,
Jan Evert van Grootheest
