[Samba] Yet another Win7 failing to join the domain...
Hi, I just installed a Windows 7 Pro workstation and failed to join our domain (latest samba 3.0.33 from CentOS 5.8). I tried the 2 lanmanWorkstation registry keys from the wiki and Windows keeps saying that he cannot find the domain. I see NOTHING in samba logs... no failure message... almost like Windows did not even try to talk to it... I tried the old way (CompatibleRUP, signorseal, strongkey, secpol LM/NTLM or NTLMv2 if neg) to no avail. Others Vista can join without problem. I can mount shares manually I read the samba wiki and did not see this version as tested, apart from the and other versions. Is it supposed to work or do I need to install a newer version (non CentOS provided)? Re: [Samba] Yet another Win7 failing to join the domain...
From: Hoover, Tony hoo...@sal.ksu.edu CentOS 5 does have a newer samba available. To get it: yum remove samba yum install samba3 or to get really fresh samba, use the SerNet repos. Re: [Samba] Dos/Unix newline translating
From: Riccardo Castellani ric.castell...@alice.it if I create a text file in my Windows XP client and I copy it to /temporary folder, then I open it by VI editor into my Debian server and I see '^M' at the end of every row. How can I solve problem ? Problem references to Dos/Unix newline translating ? Windows uses '\r\n' and Unix uses '\n'... Either configure your Windows text editor to use \n, or use dos2unix or use sed, etc... Re: [Samba] samba and fail2ban
From: Hajo Locke hajo.lo...@gmx.de to stop bruteforce logins to samba i want to create a fail2ban-rule which blocks IPs with to many login-errors. unfortunately used logins and IPs in samba log are scattered to multiple lines so i cant find a relation. i use samba for wan and cant reduce to internal IPs. What ist best in my case to get better logs or stop abusing? nobody has an idea? is there no possibility to get logs which show which ip is doing too much false logins? Maybe have a script running in the background, parsing samba log file to create and alternative log file with all related info on the same line for fail2ban...? Re: [Samba] Roaming profiles and delete files reappearing.
From: Andrea Venturoli m...@netfence.it What happens is: _ a laptop user disconnects from the network (so the local and server profiles are fully synchronized); _ at home [s]he deletes some files; _ back in the office, he connects to the net and logons; _ Windows copies everything missing back from the net, so what [s]he deleted is there again. Almost same here, but on even older samba (3.0.28)... Almost same because, while the deleted files are still present on the server, they do not get synced back to the client... I also had an issue with the nvidia service bug prior to that... JD -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/options/samba

Re: [Samba] Roaming profiles shared between WinXP and Win7
From: German Molano gmol...@ignios.net Hi there I am setting up a PDC with Centos 5 + Samba 3.5.4 + Openldap with Roaming profiles using kixstart tools to mount shared folder and modifing some registry entries on windows workstations, The Roaming profiles works fine between Win2000 and WinXP. but when I tried to join a Win7 or Vista workstations i get mixed errors. Sometimes the profiles loads sometimes not, or loads badly misconfigured icons, etc. I think you need a [Profiles.V2] section... I also think that, starting with Vista, profiles directories/files are different, so I do not think a symlink is a good idea... [Samba] Profiles updates...
Hi, I have a little problem with my profiles... When a user creates a new file; it correctly appears in its profile on the server when the profile is saved. But, when he deletes a file; it is not deleted from its profile on the server. In the mean time, he can connect to his profile folder on the server and delete them manualy... I change from logon.exe that i put on every user directory which has script like this REGEDIT4 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\International] iTime=1 sTimeFormat=HH:mm:ss But when i try to login the time format doesn't change it still in 12 format, i've tried many times but still the same. Do you mean you included something like: regedit /s x:\path\to\set24.reg to your login script and it is not working? Did you try to run the line manualy to see if it works? Re: [Samba] Vista won't copy roaming profile to server
From: Jean-Jacques Moulis j...@isy.liu.se On the client side bad drivers are causing problems! We have to disable the Nvidia Display Driver Service as it impedes uploading of the profile. Why a certified driver does this? That fixed it! Thx a lot! I've been trying hundreds of things for months but I would have never thought a display driver would be the cause... I cannot believe such a big bug, apparently from 2007, is still present and so poorly documented. Re: [Samba] Vista roaming profiles...
after many weeks of searching/trying, I still can't manage to get vista to use/save roaming profiles with samba as PDC... It has apparently worked a few times in the beginning since the profiles directories are populated. Could it be related to a Vista update or SP1? Hi, I tried to add those but it did not help... profile acls = Yes map acl inherit = Yes posix locking = No msdfs root = Yes On Vista, I found HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList\S-... which contains: CentralProfile = \\server\Profiles\user ProfilesImagePath = C:\Users\user If I set this: ProfilesImagePath = \\server\Profiles\user The profile is apparently saved on the server (I guess that means the problem is on Vista's side). The problem is that of course there is no local profile in case of a network failure... Any idea what could be wrong? The system variable %USERPROFILE% is always C:\Users\user and not \\server\Profiles\user And the whole time, Vista never complains about being denied acces to the network profile... BTW, the latest samba version for my CentOS is 3.0.28-1 Thx, JD -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
Re: [Samba] Vista roaming profiles...
From: Adam Williams awill...@mdah.state.ms.us vista works fine for me w/ roaming profiles. i can send you my smb.conf and LDAP entries if you wish to take a look. Hi Adam, I would be very gratefull if I could have a look at your smb.conf BTW, the version installed is 3.0.28 and the setup is simple: 1 samba server and 4 Vista workstations... In the mean time, I did continue to search and found other pointers like: - Looking in My Computers/Properties/User Profiles, copy the local profile and change permissions to allow the domain. - Enable the Do not check for user ownership of Roaming Profile Folders - Do I need profiles acl? Did not have the opportunity to try those yet... The strange thing is that the profiles on the server have been used at least once... I have no idea what changed in the meantime. I have to point out that Vista does not say it cannot load the profiles... I begin to wonder if he even tries. Also, I found out that one of the registry fix (RequireSignOrSeal) had been reverted by Windows: That is why I am thinking the reason is from updates... [Samba] Vista roaming profiles...
Hi everybody, after many weeks of searching/trying, I still can't manage to get vista to use/save roaming profiles with samba as PDC... It has apparently worked a few times in the beginning since the profiles directories are populated. Could it be related to a Vista update or SP1? Here's what I did so far: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System] CompatibleRUPSecurity=dword:0001 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netlogon\parameters RequireSignOrSeal=dword: [Profiles] path = /home/samba/ browseable = yes writable = yes create mode = 0600 directory mask = 0700 csc policy = disable nt acl support = no read only = no [Profiles.V2] copy = Profiles Created /home/samba/user.V2 directories... I have three questions: 1. Anything to fix/improve in my confs? 2. Do you know a good howto for Vista and samba? 3. If I fix the issue, is there a possibility of overwriting my users recent local profiles with the old server profiles? Should I empty the profiles directories first?
