Hi Vijay,

First mount your samba share on your system and than try to access it
while sending mail.

# mount -t cifs //servername/share /mnt

provide username and password if required.

Hope this helps,

You have mentioned that your samba version is 3.0.25b and if you see the
errors it talking about 3.0.27a , check at this point, this can helpful
while troubleshooting. Is it that you have a samba rpm installed and
other samba compiled from source in /usr/src/samba-3.0.27a.

Regards,
Kaustubh.
Well, I have found that Winbind can get confused when you do things in
ADS that you should not do - for example cross linked users and groups
after you dragged records around. WinXP clients may still work, but
the only way to fix Winbind is to delete the offending records in
ADS. The problem is that how you are supposed to find the offending
records is impossible to say. Sometimes you can fix it by trying to
remember when it last worked and deleting everything that was changed
since. Sometimes, the only way to fix things is to give up and
re-install ADS.

Sooo, try to roll back till you get to a working situation, then make
your changes very carefully and with frequent backups. I run ADS on
VMware and take a snapshot before every change I make to it, so I can
roll back without too much hassle as soon as things stop working.
Unfortunately, Winbind is still immature and not as robust as one may
like it to be.

Cheers,

Herman

   Regards,
   Kaustubh.
In general you need to define an Organizational Unit (OU), then define
your groups and users inside that OU. It should then show up with
Samba winbind.

Some don'ts:
Don't rename anything.
Don't drag and drop anything from one OU to another OU.
Don't make a user in one OU a member of a group in another OU.
It is even not a good idea to delete anything.
If you need to fix a typing mistake, define a new record - don't try
to edit the mistake.

Make frequent backups of ADS.

Some dos:
Apply security policies to OUs, not to users.
Run ADS on VMware, so that you can take snapshots as backups.

The reason for the above cautions is that ADS (mostly) work using the
GUIDs, while Samba uses the text strings. So you don't want to get in
a situation where ADS re-use an old GUID and changes to text strings
are applied inconsistently, which confuses winbind, so changing any
text string after it has been defined can also screw things up.

'Hope that helps!

By default home directories are share for the respective users, if you

I tried removing cache for samba and restarted it. But still the same

I have discussed this on samba irc channel and found that this idmap

[Samba] Prewin2kname with samba

2007-07-19 Thread Kaustubh Chaudhari

Hi All,

I create a user in windows2k3 AD server whose Name is "test" Logon name
is "win2k3test" and Pre-win2k name is "testprewin2k" (You get all this
options when you create user in AD)

My samba is connected with this AD every thing works fine but when i Do
wbinfo -u i can see the prewin2kname of the user ie: "testprewin2k" and
not the "win2k3test" not sure what is the reason for this.
Even i can access the share with this prewin2k name and not with
"win2k3test" user.

wbinfo -a win2k3test%testpasswd-fails

wbinfo -a testprewin2k%testpasswdworks fine

May be there is some concept behind this but i was not able to find the
same can any one of you re-direct me to the same or explain it.

Thanks for you all help.

Kind Regards,
Kaustubh.

Re: [Samba] AD passwd change

2007-01-09 Thread Kaustubh Chaudhari

Hi Andy,

>From the man page of smbpasswd.

  -r remote machine name
This option allows a user to specify what machine they
wish to change their password on. Without this parameter smbpasswd
defaults to the
local host. The remote machine name is the NetBIOS name of
the SMB/CIFS server to contact to attempt the password change. This name
is re-
solved into an IP address using the standard name
resolution mechanism in all programs of the Samba suite. See the -R name
resolve order
parameter for details on changing this resolving
mechanism.

The username whose password is changed is that of the
current UNIX logged on user. See the -U username parameter for details
on changing
the password for a different username.

Note that if changing a Windows NT Domain password the
remote machine specified must be the Primary Domain Controller for the
domain (Back-
up Domain Controllers only have a read-only copy of the
user account database and will not allow the password change).

Note that Windows 95/98 do not have a real password
database so it is not possible to change passwords specifying a Win95/98
machine as re-
  mote machine target.

Re: [Samba] permission problem samba share 2nd suse server

2007-01-08 Thread Kaustubh Chaudhari
Hi Roland,

Tell me first both the system that you are using are on linux than why
you are using samba there, use nfs :D

further seems strange to me,

Mount the same share on local system and than see if you face the same
error.
