RE: [Samba] Trouble with CUPS/SAMBA - Solved

2003-06-23 Thread Ken Sarkies
Hi Bo

Don't overlook the fact that many people like Kurt have put in huge
amounts of time and effort to provide free software and excellent
documentation as well as advice to users. The software is of top quality
and if people are having difficulties, they are interested to get to the
bottom of the problems so that they can provide better software,
documentation and advice, all for free.

cheers, Ken

RE: [Samba] Print Problem - printcap file cups

2003-06-11 Thread Ken Sarkies
This might be the problem. I had a similar one somewhat more subtle. I
compiled Samba 3 and found that CUPS didn't compile in, though
requested. It turned out that I had a version of CUPS from a rogue rpm
picked up somewhere last year, that was lacking a configuration script
that Samba uses when compiling CUPS in. I then compiled and installed a
recent version of CUPS that fixed the problem - except that none of the
printers appeared in Windows (or with smbclient -L). Changing to
printcap name=/etc/printcap fixed the problem. Samba wasn't able to find
that file by accessing the CUPS configuration. I then uninstalled the
original rpm (which should have been done first off), and reinstalled
the later CUPS package. All is now well (apparently).

Re: [Samba] Samba and Cups.

2003-06-03 Thread Ken Sarkies
I understand that CUPS sets up a dummy printcap for the use of
applications like samba, and it is best left alone. If printcap was
changed, then maybe samba can't understand it. Indeed the fact that
printing worked for a bit then stopped could even have been due to the
delay between the changes being made and samba refreshing its
configuration (which is quite short I think).

[Samba] CUPS and Samba 3.0 - printers no show

2003-06-03 Thread Ken Sarkies
Hi [Sambas]

I have RedHat 8.0, and have installed a compiled CUPS 1.1.19pre4 and
Samba 3.0 (latest this week from CVS). It all compiles and installs OK
with CUPS support in Samba, but no printers show up (according to
smbclient -L or from windoze). A reversion to Samba 2.2.8a works
perfectly with the identical setup, including configure options.
Installation and use of printers goes through OK. I assume others have
had success with Samba 3 and CUPS as I haven't seen any problem posts so
far. My ntadmins include administrator accounts for windoze although I
have had hassles with permissions that haven't yet been resolved.

Any ideas or suggestions?
