Nothing more?

There had been no changes to the call of the %restart_on_update macro
from the %postun script of the main samba package since four years.

Also I've not seen any complain in this regard.

And after I messed up a bit once in the past the guilde line is to keep
the scripts as simple as possible.

Due to the nature of how the %restart_on_update is constructed it should
be(tm) impossible to stop a service without starting it again. The
implementation of the %restart_on_update utilizes the try-restart case
of the init scripts[1].

From now anything is guessing: The process got the TERM signal but
failed to finish. As the port was still in use the (re)start failed.

Lars

[1] try-restart(LSB) is equivalent to condrestart(RedHatish systems).

[Samba] 2.2.4 RPMs for SuSE Linux 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0

2002-05-03 Thread Lars Mueller

Hello,

due to the publication of samba 2.2.4 yesterday we truncate at the
moment the daily availability of RPMs from the 2.2 CVS tree.

As the second consequence we finaly have build RPMs from the new stable
version. These packages are not yet tested extensive, hence please
report any bug.

These packages are build for both possible security authentication
mechanism (SAM), smbpasswd and LDAP. smbpasswd is the classic file based
method. LDAP requires a properly configured LDAP server, e.g. the SuSE
Linux eMail Server.

Cause in samba 2.2.x is no runtime configuration option to select LDAP
or classic SAM, we needed to build the binaries twice. Therefor you must
install additional to samba and samba-client either samba-classic and
samba-classic-client or samba-ldap and samba-ldap-client. These
packages contains the appropriate binaries for the wanted SAM and
conflicts to each other pair.

You'll find the packages at ftp://ftp.SuSE.com/pub/people/lmuelle/

[Samba] samba 2.2 CVS RPMs updated again

2002-04-26 Thread Lars Mueller

Hi,

I've updated the RPMs of samba 2.2 CVS for SuSE Linux 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0
again. Take care about the version. The current filenames must contain
200204270033. The packages are at ftp://ftp.SuSE.com/pub/people/lmuelle/

The synchronization of the server may take some minutes.

Some minutes later you'll find the packages also at our primary mirror
ftp://ftp.GwDG.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/people/lmuelle/

Remember to have a lot of fun while testing...

[Samba] samba 2_2 cvs binaries available as RPMs

2002-04-22 Thread Lars Mueller

Hi,

we've build samba RPMs from the 2_2 CVS tree. The packages are available
for SuSE Linux 7.2, 7.3 and 8.0. You'll find them at

ftp://ftp.SuSE.com/pub/people/lmuelle/i386/

in the corresponding subdirectories.

Users from Europe, in particular German universities, please use our
primary mirror at
ftp://ftp.GwDG.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/people/lmuelle/i386/

The source RPM for all SuSE Linux versions is in the src subdirectory.

This version is compiled with an appropriate include/version.h to allow
people to check which CVS date is the base by calling

/usr/sbin/smbd -V

Be carefull with starting samba while booting your system, cause the
start script asks you for a explicit confirmation about using a CVS
snapshot version. This might lead to a hanging boot process.

This message also informs about the samba bug reporting page
http://www.samba.org/samba/bugreports.html

You'll find this message for proofreading in
/usr/share/doc/packages/samba/WARN-cvs-version

If you find a bug only in the package or have any further suggestions,
please feel free to contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

We'll try to build fresh RPMs on a daily base.

Hope that helps to develop a stable 2.2.4 release.

Have a lot of fun...
