[Samba] Domain Control Query via samba.org Howto
Hi All, I am reading the howto on samba.org, http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-pdc.html#pdc-example and find the section about SID/RID under Features and Benefits a little vague. It states that samba creates the RID, but it then states that the windows machine also allocates the RID. Here, *** The UNIX operating system uses a separate name space for user and group identifiers (the UID and GID) but Windows allocates the RID from a single name space. *** it says that windows allocates the RID, but just before that, it says, *** Samba produces the RID algorithmically *** Is that confusing, or is it just me? [Samba] Setting Samba to Listen on VMWare Interface
Hi All, am wanting to set up samba so that it only listens on the VMWare interface. I set interfaces as below, interfaces = 192.168.178.1/24 but I still don't see my share from XP. I for a username/password. Do I need to create the account on the XP machine on the Linux machine? [public] comment = Public Stuff path = /home/marks public = yes writable = yes I turned off the firestarter firewall to eliminate it as the issue. path on XP is \\192.168.178.1 in an Explorer window. No firewall enabled on XP machine. Linux distro where the share is, is Ubuntu (Feisty). I can ping the VMware host from the guest XP, so connectivity is fine. Anyone here who can steer me in the right direction? Cheers. Mark Sargent -- "Tell me and I'll forget, show me and I may not remember, involve me, and I'll understand." [Samba] Can't Access Sambe Running Linux Box From XP
Hi All, I've just installed Samba on a Linux box, and can see the Windows box attempting connections, but, when inputting the username/password, I keep getting the same user/pass prompt window. What should I troubleshoot for this? I gave the user/pass that is the same as the account on the Linux box, which has permissions to view the shared directory in /etc/samba/smb.conf. Cheers.
