I think the only problem is IP address of individual computer. Is this

If the problem occur again, please check both computers IP address.
Even local dns would not help you to solve this as you are connecting
using IP address. DNS only usefull if you are using name, not IP (to
 convert name to IP).

Shorewall. DHCP Server and BIND are three ways to get a home LAN going.
Shorewall will handle NAT and provide your security while DHCP Server will
handle assigning IP address assignments. BIND will handle internal DNS stuff
(and can even cache the External DNS.) All of these will allow Samba to work
as well.

Mandriva Linux even has a Wizard to set up all these sevices for you.

Have winbindd, smbd, nmbd all been restarted?
... just a guess since winbindd is saying it's getting requests of a
different size than expected, and I've seen that when I've restarted one
 daemon, but not the other.

You could also try clearing out your tdb cache files I know I run the

 ubuntu though

 /usr/local/samba/bin/tdbbackup -v /usr/local/samba/var/locks/*.tdb

 perhapse?
tdbbackup -v var/samba/locks/*.tdb

You can mount Linux file systems on Windows you just have to have the right

Progress of sending and faxs in queue can user see through
web interface (module in moregroupware). We send and receive cca 30 of
faxs in day and may store of fax (in g3 or png) have about 1.5GB.
 Tomas
There is a web interface for Hylafax available through Usermin which can be
downloaded from www.webmin.com, The Hylafax plugins are available at
www.hylafax.org

If you use a Postscript driver for Hylafax you can send graphics as well as
receive them.

Yes unless the Windows driver requires a hard direct connection to the
printer. Lexmark is the actual manufacturer of your printer. (Sorry to be the
one to tell you that.) However, if you setup up Windows to look at the port
as if its a direct connection you may be able to cheat a bit. I had a HP
inkjet that I could set up to share with Linux systems but Windows clients
balked because they required that the USB connection was in place at the
computer you were printing from. So while the Linux clients could all send
print jobs to the CUPS server for that printer none of the Windows clients
could. The Windows driver would balk immediately if the USB cable wasn't
directly plugged in to the computer you wanted to print from. BTW because it
is a Lexmark printer don't expect a Linux driver anytime soon.

 is not available for Linux.

No Linux will most likely never be able to print to it but your Windows
Clients can if its connected to the Samba Server and the driver driver for it
will allow you to connect via a network connection.

I am using Fedora Core 5

She has Windows XP Media Center Edition. I cannot see her computer at all when
I try to browse with smb4k or with my file manager.

She cannot can see my computer if I scan from her station but she cannot
connect to me. I ran a scan on SMB ports from her and they show as open so
she should see my printer but doesn't.

My firewall is reporting the attempt of ports like 35578 attempting to make an

Did MS change things again or is there something else?

 Hello,

I have quick question about Printing with Samba.I want to print to
printer connected to Windows machine.I do not have drive for Linux of
the printer.Should I create raw queue in Linux to print to Windows printer?

If i do not have suitable driver for Linux for printer is it still
possible to print to windows printer ?

I tired postscript printer but it is not working.

 Thanks

It is much easier to have Windows print to a Samba server than it is to print
to Windows from any Unix. I have successfully setup shared printers on a
Samba Server that I had no Linux driver for. Though the server could not
print to the attached printer all my Windows clients could as Samba Print
queue just sent raw data straight through so all the printer got was the file
that Windows created before it sent it to the Samba print share.

Now as far as printing to your printer from Linux, if the post script driver
does not work then you may not be able to do so. Have you used Google to see
if a driver is available? Since you didn't state what brand it was all I can
add is if its a Brother I bet you will find a driver at their web site.

Re: [Samba] Connection scripts with the 'prexec' clause

 Hi all,

I am running Samba 3.0.20B on an AIX server with SECURITY=USER using an
LDAP backend.I am looking for a way to capture the actual
 username(%USER_NAME%) that
the client user is logged onto his individual workstation with and compare
it with the user(%u) they are connecting with the share as.If they are
different, I want to reject the user's connection. After doing some
reading, it appears that a connection script with the 'preexec' clause is
the way to go but the Samba environment variables only can intrepret
client's hostname, netbios name, and ip address. Is there a way for me
to capture the client's logon id(%USERNAME%) or accomplish this task
 another way?

 Thanks in advance,

I believe you can use LDAP to handle the security measures you are talking
about. I don't know how to set LDAP to do that but someone in a LDAP forum
should.

However, keep in mind such a scheme may cause an issue if you have users
working on a shared project that is kept in one, or both, of their users
folders on the server. You should allow users the option to let other users
access their files if need be. Again I have no clue how to setup LDAP to
handle this but I believe it can be done.
