[Samba] (no subject)

2004-09-15 Thread Shiraaz Singh
Hi

Has anyone successfully integrated SLES 9.1 into Active Directory using
Samba 3 , such that the AD users log onto the directory and gain access
to resources on the SLES server as if it were just another Windows
server.

I am a total newbie but with the help of the fantastic Linux community
managed to get myself to the point where the SLES box is in AD but if I
want AD users to gain access to any of the SLES shares I need to create
seperate user accounts on the SLES server.

Anyone that can offer some help or even the direction to where the help
is will be appreciated

Thanks

[Samba] Newbie question on AD permissions

2004-09-03 Thread Shiraaz Singh
Hi

Ok so I have samba setup and started and I have successfully joined the
AD domain and can see the Linux server in
Microsoft Active Directory Users and Groups applet.

I can also log on and browse a server from the lnux server using:

kinit [EMAIL PROTECTED] - where LAB.COM is the AD Domain and the
doing a
smbclient //W2KSVR/c\$ -k - where W2KSVR is the W2003 server

So all that is fine !!! I Hope ...

So now how do I go about giving users from Active Directory permissions
to the shares on the linux server ? I try from
Windows by right clicking on the linux folder and going to the security
tab but can only choose users from the linux server.I cannot select to
add users from the AD ?

The linux server by the way is SLES 9.1 with Samba 3.0.2a

Apologies if this question is obvious to everyone but I am a newcommer.

Thanks
Shiraaz

[Samba] Need help with LDAP naming in SAMBA

2004-09-02 Thread Shiraaz Singh
Hi All

I am a newbie to Linux and Samba but getting thru it slowly and
successfully.I am trying to get the Linux server accesible from windows
and I need to know what the EXACT naming convention is for the LDAP
settings in Samba.

Here is the scenario

I have a MS Active Directory in place with a W2003 server acting as a
PDC emulator. The server is called Frodo and the domain is lab.co.za.

I have Suse server 9.1 and want to make this available to the windows
clients and also want to use the Active Directory for authentication. In
samba I (via the Yast tool) I choose LDAP for authentication and need to
supply the path to the LDAP server (which would be Frodo) but I don't
know what the exact distinguished name should be.I was told to use

cn=frodo,dc=lab,dc=co;dc=za

but if I do an LDAP test I get an error there seems to be no funtional
ldap servers at this location

can anyone help ?
