Okay, I figured that I had to remove the option WINS SERVER,
but curiously I have the following error now:

$ nmbd :== $samba_root:[bin]nmbd
$ opt = f$trnlnm(SAMBA_NMBD_OPTIONS)
$!! nmbd -d1 'opt'
$ nmbd -d1 -i

What program has started NMBD ? Any ideas ?

It's probably left over from before. Just shut down Samba and delete the
nmbd.pid file if it remains.

You will probably need to recompile and relink it.

I did so on my 8.2 system and it works, save for the volume size reporting
and browsing issues I reported before. I'm not certain whether this is due
to OpenVMS 8.2 or TCPIP 5.5.

OK, thanks.
Now, could you give me a couple more informations :
- A copy of your SAMBA_ROOT:[LIB]SMB.CONF file
- If I guess correctly, WEB should be a logical name. Is it true, and if
it is, which does it translate to ?
- What is your VMS version ?
- Have you installed the latest patches (ACRTL/UPDATE mostly) available for
that VMS version ?

I have the same problem on my DS10L with VMS 8.2.
I don't know if it's related, but I also can't view shares with NET VIEW

They work OK if I map or open them directly with the UNC path.

Hi.
The original OP didn't say what VMS version.
AFAIK, the 127 block dir cache limit (and I don't
think raising ACP_DIRCACHE helped actualy) was
removed in some later VMS version. Maybe 7.x.

Are you sure about that? I deal with 7.1 to 7.3-1 systems on a daily basis, and
if we have to delete large numbers of files in a directory, it takes a very
long time - unless you do it in reverse alphabetical order!

Hi
  I have a samba server using vms 7.3-1 and tcpip I have a win200 domain not
using a/d.
I have configured my smb.conf file for days and cant get my samba server to
appear on the list
OR be able to map to it...

If you're using a Windows 2000 domain, you're using AD!

Can anyone post a smb.conf file that works for them OR provide some more
useful stuff.

Here is an smb.conf that works with my DEC3000-600 (EV4 alpha) running VMS
7.3-1 and Samba 2.2.8. I could not get Samba running on my VAX - it doesn't
seem to be communicating with the domain properly.
