[Samba] changing name of PDC

2006-06-04 Thread Thomas Widhalm

Hi,

I currently have 2 Samba Servers on a Network. One is PDC, the other one
is Domain Member Server.

Now I have to switch the roles of the 2 servers without changing their
names.

I tried to switch configs, smbpasswd and secrets.tdb, I deleted
browse.dat and wins.dat, but still the clients try to authenticate
against the old server. I even removed one of them from the domain and
inserted it back again, but while joining, it sill connects to the old one.

I now got my Network running again by making the old server a backup
domain controller, but I will have to remove it in the near future. Is
there any way to get the clients to connect to the new server?

Regards,
Thomas

[Samba] safe_strcpy problem in Samba 3.0.10

2006-02-21 Thread Thomas Widhalm
Hi!

We have a lot of logfiles showing

zfl04.log.3: ERROR: string overflow by 1 (24 - 23) in safe_strcpy
[organisation#rektorat#vrlehre#qe-eval]

I found a reported bug producing this output within older Samba versions
than 3.0.4 . But we use version 3.0.10 and no mangling method set within
smb.conf . Therefore it should be the defaultvalue hash2 which doesn't
have this flaw.

Could anyone give me a hint?

Thanks,
Thomas

Re: [Samba] Losing wallpapers on roaming profiles

2005-11-29 Thread Thomas Widhalm
A
Has anyone encountered the same problem and found some solutions?

I have a similar problem. I found out that the wallpaper change was
learned by the workstations, but not applied. If I right-click on the
desktop I see the new wallpaper name, but it's not applied (i.e., I
still see the old one). Clicking OK at that dialog (without changing
anything else) then applies the wallpaper to the desktop.

And have you found some solution to it?

I encountered lately, that this happens especially when the profile is used on
a disconnected laptop meanwhile.

Thanks anyway,
Thomas

[Samba] Losing wallpapers on roaming profiles

2005-11-27 Thread Thomas Widhalm
Hi!

I'm getting difficulties with wallpapers on roaming profiles on a samba
3.0.9-2.3 under SuSE 9.2 with Windows XP Professional Clients. I discovered,
by reading other postings concerning this topic, that Windows won't use jpegs
as wallpapers on roaming profiles (converts them to bmp and stores them in
Local Settings, which doesn't roam). So I converted the pictures to bmp
myself an used them as wallpaper. Still they got lost most of the time.

Has anyone encountered the same problem and found some solutions?

Thanks,
Thomas

[Samba] MS Desktop and MyDocuments in /home?

2005-05-18 Thread Thomas Widhalm
Hi!

Im rather new to Samba, so please excuse me, if I'm asking something
obvious.

Im using Samba in my Home- Lan as PDC for WinXP Prof Clients whith
roaming profiles. Since all clients in the LAN are Dualboot WinXP/ SuSE
9.2, I would like an easy way of accessing my files the same way when I
use Windows or Linux. Therefore I moved the users Desktop and
MyDocuments Folders in a offline- available share with path /home on
the Samba Server. MyDocuments resolves to Documents and Desktop to
Desktop. So when I mount the serves /home- directory to my Linux boxes,
I have the same files in my Home Directory and on my Desktop.

Now my question. Is there any reason, not to do so? During my studies, I
often read, one shouldn't put MyDocuments in the the [home] share, but
what if I share the whole directory? and do these 2 shares interfere? As
far as I know, [home] is needed, when setting up a Samba Server.

I'm using this setup right now and didn't encounter any problems, but it
would be nice to know, if there will be any in the future.

Thanks for your answers.

Thomas

Re: [Samba] the profiles keeps mapping!

2005-05-04 Thread Thomas Widhalm
Oh. Write a logon script for each user, using, for example, 'net use z:
/delete' for each drive letter that's mapped and you don't want to see.
Actually, the profiles share should not be mapped anyway. If you don't
have a profiles share, the profiles will get put in the user's home
directory, which you probably don't want.

Unfortunately I got a similar problem, since I updateded my Samba Server the
last time. I used the z: drive for a share with offline- available versions
of desktop and my files (I hope it's correct, I just use German Windows,
where it's Eigene Dateien). Since the last update my home share gets
mapped to z:, overwriting the already mapped z: drive. I just did a
workaround with setting my own desktop/myfiles share to y:, but as Guido I
just don't want my home share get mapped.

Regards,
Thomas

AW: [Samba] Can a Samba server join multiple NT domain?

2005-03-23 Thread Thomas Widhalm
Hi,

I'm rather new to Samba, but I think, that it's not possible to join
multiple Domains.

Why would you want this, anyway? As far as I know, the Trust between the
Domains should be enough. Clients of the other Domain can log onto the Samba
Server because of the trust.

Please forgive my humble English

Thomas
