[Samba] samba ldap / password (smbpasswd)
hi i have set up samba as a pdc with ldap but i am having problems with passwords they do not seem to be taken from ldap instead i have to run smbpasswd username to allow a user to login. this directory will have around 800 users when complete and the ldap is also used for other authentication like to websites and other resources like jabber they all work fine it is only the windows login that needs smbpasswd. i have two accounts working the root and nobody accounts but none of the others do they have the samba scheme on ll accounts but this does not help. any ideas as to why or how i can find where the problem is the failed logins do not seem to be logged any where and the failure message for winodws is invalid username or password. -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/samba-ldap---password-%28smbpasswd%29-tf1987486.html#a5454321 Sent from the Samba - General forum at Nabble.com. -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
[Samba] ldap smbpasswd automation (anyway around smbpasswd)
okay managed to get accounts working by running smbpasswd username then entering there password, is there anyway i can make it use ldap or fill in the list from ldap, i have about 80 users in there and need to add about 800 more i do not want to sit and enter the password for around 900 users must be an easier way? it was very easy to get the accounts into ldap beacause i generated the ldifs from a userlist using calc. -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
[Samba] user login ldap problems, misunderstandings
hi, i have managed to set up samba and ldap to work together i have got machines joined to the server, used IDEALX to create default entries. i can log into the machines with root and nobody accouts but nobody elses. i have added on about 80 users to ldap but none of them can login they all appear to have posix and samba attributes in the ldap directory. i am geting a bit confused also by this smbpasswd do i need to run it for each user in ldap, i kinda figured i did not but got a little confused when reading others posts on the web. also where can i look to find why the logins are failed i have the samba log level set to 3 which i believe is the highest but nothing shows up to show that an attempt was made. any help with log files to check levels to change or anything that can help me figure out where i am going wrong, as samba and ldap seem to work and communicate fine. any help appreciated thxs i have managed to come so far not knowing ldap or samba to this point. -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
