Re: [Samba] 20 second delays when accessing Samba on Fedora 11
Jim, the network trace doesn't show any DNS record lookups while this occurs. However, I was surprised to find empty log files that look like "log.___192.168.0.48". What causes this? Chris, you are onto something here (mentioning the NIC). I haven't gone back to prove this 100%, but the multiple 20 second delay problem has gone away. It went away when I connected the ethernet cable to a temporarily unused NIC. Specifically, I have 3 ethernet cards. The PC's having the 20x delay were on eth1. The NIC eth0 wasn't used for Samba at all. NIC eth2 didn't have a cat5 connected, but was configured with a static IP. It appears the 20x delay went away when I connected an ethernet cable to eth2. This doesn't make any sense to me, however, as samba wasn't configured to use eth2 at all. Make any sense? ... Hi, Just a thought, have you checked your nic for problems? I once had the same problem and it turned out to an nic problem. Thanks Jeremy. No Ipv6 enabled. This problem even occurs if I use "\\192.168.0.254" (IP of my samba server) rather than a netbios name. I'm not running a local DNS server. I'm really pulling my hair out on this one. Are there any forums you might suggest I ask this question on, in addition to here? Thanks for your time. I can make the wireshark trace available, if interested. ... [Samba] 20 second delays when accessing Samba on Fedora 11
I had samba running fine on a Fedora 6 machine. I've upgraded to Fedora 11 and I'm getting huge delays when first accessing a folder. With Fedora 11 I'm ussing samba-3.3.2-0.33.fc11.i586. I'm getting about 60+ second delays before being requested to enter my username/password. I've used WireShark and can see 1) Session Setup AndX Request, NTLMSSP_NEGOTIATE 2) 20 seconds pass 3) Session Setup AndX Request, NTLMSSP_AUTH, User: xxx/yyy from my PC 4) 20 seconds passes 5) Session Setup AndX Request, NTLMSSP_AUTH, User: xxx/yyy from my PC 6) again, 20 sec 7) Session Setup AndX Request, NTLMSSP_AUTH, User: xxx/yyy from my PC Then it asks me for username/password and I can access the share. There isn't anything unique in my smb.conf compared to before (when it worked well with Fedora 6). Highlights are below. workgroup = HOME server string = Wonka netbios name = Wonka interfaces = lo eth1 security = user passdb backend = tdbsam [homes] comment = Home Directories browseable = no writable = yes [Miscellaneous] path = /media/home/public/Miscellaneous writeable = yes browseable = yes guest ok = no All my PCs have this problem and they all run XP. Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated. ... Altan -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: https://lists.samba.org/mailman/options/samba
