Re: [Samba] Can't print duplex
Hi, I am using Samba 2.2.6 on a Solaris 2.8 print server. When I try to print from an XP client to an HP LaserJet 8000 or 8150 printer with the drivers installed locally, everything works fine including Duplex printing. When I try to print to a printer with the drivers stored on the Samba server, the Duplex feature is not available to the application. The client is able to turn on Duplexing in the Printers and Faxes folder and it appears to be installed, but when you try to select Duplex from the Layout tab from within an application, two sided printing is not available. Has anyone seen this problem? Yes. We are experiencing this problem for several months now, but no solution in sight *sigh* I am afraid Jerry didn't catch all bugs concerning printing... What I have done to work around is: Install the printer as a local printer on eg. LPT1 in a command prompt du net use LPT!: \\samba_server\lp This work fine for me. \Lars{} -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba

[Samba] Can't print duplex -- getting worse
After upgrading samba2.2.2 to 2.2.4 is the duplex printing feature no more available. I saw that there are People, who have same problem. The patch for this problem at ftp://ftp.samba.org/pub/jerry/samba-2.2.4-patches/ did not help. We still can not print duplex. (There is no duplex option on the printer's layout property window) With samba-2.2.5pre1 is also no way to print duplex. Please Help!!!Environment:Samba is running on SUN Sparc Solaris 8. All clients are Windows2000.Thanks best regards.Van Khiem Quach

[Samba] Can't print duplex -- getting worse
The inability to print duplex is not fixed in 2.2.4. On top of that, I now have people that can't print at all. A little background: A while back (with 2.2.3, then 2.2.3a, then with several CVS snapshots) I had the problem that even though I set the properties of a printer to Duplexer Installed, when a user tried to print two-sided, the option did not show in the layout tab. Well, I upgraded to 2.2.4 and this did not seem to fix anything, so I deleted all the files in the locks directory and printers directory and reinstalled all the printers to the samba server. Still no joy. Worse, I now have reports from the user community: 1) Some people can't print. (I don't know the error, sorry.) 2) Nobody can look at the properties of the printers. The monochome PS printers. No problems getting the properties of the color PS printers. (Printers share driver code, don't they?) The error is: Printer properties could not be displayed. Operation cound not be completed. 3) Some people can't delete the printers from their own PCs. Even people with admin rights. So, I figured something was wrong with 2.2.4 so I reinstalled the previous CVS snapshot (I still have the binaries). Same problems. So, I then deleted all the samba files and restored from backups. Same problem. It looks like some change in 2.2.4 changed the _clients_ and now I can't get out of this mess I'm in. I have people who can't print. Lest anyone ask: the clients are all running win2k SP2. Samba is running on Solaris 8.
