[Samba] Dave clients accessing Samba

2003-09-02 Thread Rob Tanner
Hi,

We have about 2 dozen Mac OS9 computers running Dave 2.5.3 to access smb
resources. Our print server, running Samba 2.2.7 (w/domain
authentication), has no user accounts. PCs access the printers and print
just fine, but the Macs using Dave get an authentication error of invalid
user/password. They can access resources on the win2003 PDC.

Any idea what's going on here specific to the Dave clients?

Thanks,
Rob

Are any errors showing up in the logs? That would be the first place to look

I know this doesn't answer your question ...

I recommend running netatalk so you don't have to use dave on the
clients.
I've had no problems serving the same files via samba and netatalk

Re: [Samba] Dave clients accessing Samba

2003-09-02 Thread Rob Tanner
Corey,

The problem is somewhere in the interaction between the two. Samba does
not see and error. Since the user does not have a local unix account, he
connects as nobody (the unix guest user). But since he is logged on to
the windows domain, samba knows his domain user name, and we need that
information for print accounting. Dave 2.5.3 appears to have a problem
with guest access and tries to login with a username/password.

Also, the samba box is using domain authentication whereas Dave 2.5.3
behaves like a windows 95/98 client. I think that that's part of the
problem, but I don't know how to get around it.
