For full logs, go to: -
http://www.superbug.demon.co.uk/samba/
and download
samba-copy-paste-error.tar.bz2
It contains the full samba config, log files, and also an ethereal
capture of the transaction.
The password files have been blanked.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

I have solved the problem.
It turned out to be a autosensing hub/switch thinking a nic card was
half duplex, when the nic card was set to full duplex.
When I forced the nic card to half duplex, everything worked.

I still think there is a problem with samba or the linux kernel, because
with the nic card set wrongly on thw windows 2000 machine, thus causing
lots of lost packets, I was able to transfer files easily between
windows machines, all be it slowly. It was only the windows 2000 to
samba that failed. When I get a moment, I will look into the problem
further.

[Samba] Error Copying File or Folder.

2003-11-23 Thread James Courtier-Dutton
Hi,

I have a linux server running samba version 3.0.0. (smbd --version)

I have a Windows 2000 Client.
The file is stored on the server.
On the Windows 2000 client, I browse to the file. Select COPY.
Move to a Local directory on the Windows 2000 Client and select PASTE.

It starts the copy, and then fails with

Title of the error window is: -
Error Copying File or Folder.
Contents on the error window is: -
Cannot copy xyz: The specified network name is no longer availiable.
The xyz is the filename of the file I am trying to copy. I just put xyz
in for explanations purposes.

Can anyone help?

I have root/admin access to both server and client, so I can provide any
extra log files that people need, just tell me what to send.

Cheers
James
