[Samba] Smbmnt problem with real path
Dear friends, The following command smbmnt //winhost/share /home/myname/share Produces the error Failed to find real path for mount point. What does it mean, and how to fix it. [Samba] smbmnt as user
Hello all, I read in the smbmnt man page that: "A setuid smbmnt will only allow mounts on directories owned by the user, and that the user has write permission on." I am trying to set up a mount on /mnt/laptop. I have given my users 777 permissions on the directory, but it is owned by root. Is there any way that I can work around this. It appears from the man page that smbmnt will only work where the users have write permissions and own the directory. Has anyone come up with a way around this -- or does it offer some security benefit that makes it worthwhile. Thanks! Is there anyway to fix this? Perhaps Steve French's new cifsfs (included by default in 2.5 and 2.6 kernels) doesn't have such a limit, but I'm not 100% sure. [SAMBA] smbmnt file size limitation, still?
I know this may be an old subject, but I couldn't find an answer. However, when I use smbmnt via smbmount to mount a Windows XP from SuSE 8.1, there is still the size limitation of 2 gigabytes (2 x 1024M). Is there anyway to fix this? Thanks, Steven C. [Samba] smbmnt and friends
Dear all 1) Could you happen to know why smbmnt, smbmount and smbumount are not compiled whem I rum "make" from the source directory? I found (for example) bin/testparms in the PROGS1 Makefile variable but no reference to those little fellows. 2) How do I change the config directory to be /etc instead of /usr/local/samba/lib? I tryed "./configure --sysconfdir=/etc" and it didn't work. Slackware 8.1 + samba-2.2.7a Regards -- Ethy H. Just off hand, I'd say set your smbmnt suid root! ;) chmod +s `which smbmnt` as root might do the trick. Assuming smbmnt is owned by root. Which it usuall is. Of course you always want to be wary of setting things suid root... mark -- To unsubscribe from this list go to the following URL and read the instructions: http://lists.samba.org/mailman/listinfo/samba
