Re: [Samba] Samba-3.6.1 release IPV6 issue

2011-11-30 Thread David Holder

Hi Prashant,

I have tried (using your smb.conf, the same versions and configurations)
to recreate your problem. I tried hard to get it to break without any
problems. Samba over IPv6 worked successfully every time.

There must be something different on your systems/configurations. Any ideas?

Regards,
David

P.S. I've CC'd the list so that there is a record in this thread that
IPv6 works!

I just have to ask, what version of Linux are you trying this on and
what is installed when you compiled samba?!

Re: [Samba] Samba-3.6.1 release IPV6 issue

2011-11-20 Thread Prashant Kashyap

Hi David,

Following are the steps I used:

On the Device

1 Assign a IPv6 address to the interface

2000::2

2 Open the 445 port using telnetd. After opening it is listening at
ipv6 iaddress.

3 Run smbd

smbd -s smb.conf

On the Windows 7 PC

1 Assign a IPv6 address to interface 2000::1

2 Try to connect using

\\2000--2.ipv6-literal.net\public

Or using mapping option

After doing this I can see the connection is established using netstat
cmd on the device and PC. But after some times it returns an error on PC

mapped network drive could not be created because of the following
error occurred: The specified network name is no longer available

Please note that I am able to access it with ipv4 address and also ping
is working for ipv6 address.

I am also attaching the smb.conf file which I am using.

Regards,

Prashant

Hi. That would be my question exactly. Could you provide us with
examples of the addresses/commands you are using?

Hi David/Takahashi,
  Thanks for your response.

I am trying this way only, but could able to connect it.
It would be grateful if you could provide the complete detail.

After connecting it returns a error : network name is not
available.

Have you used a global IPv6 address (not link/site local) ?

  Hi,

You can specify an IPv6 address in Windows using the ipv6-literal.net.
notation.

E.g.

3101::100

is

3101--100.ipv6-literal.net.

Best Regards,
David

I am trying to use the shared files from Windows 7 using IPV6 address.
But I couldn't able to map or access it through V6 address, though I can
 access it through IPV4 address.
 (snip)

If possible please provide all the steps including smb.conf and windows
7 settings if any thing require to be change for especially IPV6.
1st: map an IPv6 address to a hostname using hosts file or DNS.
2nd: connect to the server with \\hostname syntax.

AFAIK, you cannot specify IPv6 address directly. That's Windows'
 design.
