setup samba to server roaming profiles, and for specific users turn off
roaming profiles on the XP computer using gpedit.msc, not specifying the
sambaProfilePath in LDAP, or on my computer properties, advanced, users,
change their profile from roaming to local.

Yes you can do that. We have been using samba for 4+ years now and we
have never had my profiles on the PDC.

[Samba] samba profiles

2007-11-26 Thread Sven Buchstaller
Hi list

I got a small problem, i use atm 3X Samba Servers

1XPDC

1XBDC

1XFileserver

ATM I have all profiles/homes on the PDC, but I need it on BDC too.

My thought the best way is I move the /homes to the Fileserver.

And now comes my problem, what must I change on the smb.conf?

Logon path = \\fileserver\profiles\.msprofiles

Logon home =\\fileserver\profiles\%U\9xprofile

And on share:

[profiles]

comment = Network Profiles Service

path = /Data/samba/home <---that's my DIR where the files are

is this ok ??

[global]

workgroup = Domain

server string = Samba

map to guest = Bad User

passdb backend = ldapsam:ldap://server.intern

log level = 3

log file = /var/log/samba/%U.log

debug uid = Yes

smb ports = 139

deadtime = 120

printcap name = /etc/printcap

logon script = logon.bat

logon path = \\%L\profiles\.msprofile

logon drive = H:

logon home = \\%L\%U\.9xprofile

[homes]

comment = Home Directories

valid users = %S, %D%w%S

read only = No

inherit acls = Yes

browseable = No

[profiles]

comment = Network Profiles Service

path = %H

read only = No

acl check permissions = No

create mask = 0600

directory mask = 0700

profile acls = Yes

[users]

comment = All users

path = /home

read only = No

inherit acls = Yes

THX for support/help

What you need is Windows folder redirection.

[Samba] Samba profiles

2006-06-24 Thread Diego Lorenzo - OJC
Hi, everybody.

It is possible to configure a samba pdc server to run two or more different
confs by different users? For instance, the user Paul has mobile profile and
the user Peter has local profile. I have about a thousand users in my company.
Most of them will have local profiles and only twenty of them will have mobile
profiles. Have been reading ´bout an "include" clause placed in the primary
smb.conf. Does it works? Have anyone tried it up?

Best regards,

Diego

Well, you know what they say about those who package software?
You take code to a package but you can't make him package it.

You will find two very useful utilities in the Samba code tarball:

~samba/source/utils/
editreg.c
profiles.c

Both are needed if you want to manage profiles, both compile easily,
neither are necessary to "run" Samba and thus are seldom included where
they ought to be.

So this means that you will have to build them yourself if your package
thought they should not be included in a binary distribution.

I install the debian packages for version 3.0.1 of samba and
samba-common, and I can't locate the profiles tool for editing user
profiles.
Does anyone know where I can get this tool.

Thanks
