Doesn't matter. smbd will accept whitespace or commas
as delimiters in this context.

cheers, jerry

Thanks for the correction...I was always under the (now
mistaken)impression that Samba used the , to separate the names or
groups.

In Samba 2.2.x smb.conf.5.html it shows for valid users:
Example: valid users = greg, @pcusers

After looking at this further today I noticed that the invalid users
example uses whitespace
Example: invalid users = root fred admin @wheel

Lesson learnedalways thoroughly read the manual!

Mark

Hello everyone.
Im not sure what is wrong here, but I cant seem to figure out why one of
my
users cannot access a share on a file server that we are running here.

Running on RH 8.0, samba 2.2.7a. (Planning on upgrading eventually)

Anyway, one user for some reason, cannot access the share through his
network neighborhood icon.

Here is the share info:

[AdminDirectory]
 comment = administrators information
 path = /backupstorage/admindirectory
 valid users = @wheel matt
 read only = No

The user is matt, who is also apart of the wheel group:

$ groups matt
matt : matt wheel

Looking at permissions on the share:

$ ls -lad /backupstorage/admindirectory/
drwxrwxr--   26 adminwheel4096 Oct  9 11:00
/backupstorage/admindirectory/

I pushed the permissions down, recursively...but still, the user 'matt'
cannot access the share.

I'm having a bugger of a time trying to figure this out.
Anyone have any ideas?

Lastly, looking in /var/log/samba I see a bunch of logs in there for
computers and such. What log file would i use to read to see if I can
find
the problem?

All help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Jason

I appreciate the input.

Any idea why this user cannot connect to the share?
Any suggestion on the log file to check? I'm having a bugger of a time
parsing the logs right now, searching for info.

One last thought: User is using Win2k Pro. Could this be a Windows issue?

Thanks.

Look at a high level debug log (i always use 10) and see where the
acess denied is coming from.

Hi Jason
your config for share seems good but you dont write about smbpasswd and
existence of user matt on it.
For connecting to samba users must exist on smbpasswd and must use password
from this in login to windows or in NT XP in Login as feature.
Try check this setup.
Your security mode i mean is user. And network is proper configured for
client matt. How OS matt uses and is on one segment with samba?
Bye.

 Anything else I'm missing?

 Also, could this be a Windows side problem?

 It works fine for me, but not the other user?

 Thanks.

I read next your mesage and if you use W2k with SP2 try read README file on
/usr/share/doc/samba../docs/... for this or update your SP to SP4 and last
security from MS.

Bye.
