The easiest way to check I think it that you must be able
to run lpq without any user authentication. Samba does not
use any credentials when submitting or querying jobs. And
it assumes that root can remove any job from the queue.

Hi,

Sorry for the delay I missed your message...

I don't understand how samba interacts with cups : By the means
of some kind of interprocess communication ? Or by the cups
webserver directly ?

Actually my cupsd is configured to ask a password to gain access
to administrative functions (add/del printer and accessing the
job history)

Is this incompatible with samba ?

Thanks for your help, I think i'm going to see an end on this :)

It was a long time ago that the fixes were checked in.
Maybe even in 3.0.9. Check the release notes.

However, be aware that smbd caches the lpq listing
so there is a chance you are trying to pause/cancel a job
that has already gone through the cups server.

Also, see the other message I sent about cupsd and
authentication.

These are all messages from your cups server.

You'll have to look at /etc/cups/cupsd.conf for the security settings of
it. I don't remember that there were cups-Samba bugs in 3.0.14a.

Perhaps try to disable all access restriction from localhost, so it does
no longer matter, wich uid samba has.

Try accessing CUPS with the client tools (accept, cancel ...) to test
your settings.

I don't want to believe that this is an overlooked problem.
This function is something that production servers have to be able to do.

I think this means the users don't have the necessary permissions in
Samba. Have a look at the Samba manual in the section about
permissions to see how to allow users to pause/cancel print jobs.

Also I read that if I am using Printing=cups that any of the custom

Re: [Samba] Users can't pause or cancel print jobs

2006-01-09 Thread Jürgen Hoffmann
Hi,

reading smb.conf, I found

   lprm command (S)
This parameter specifies the command to be executed on the
server host in order to delete a print job.

This command should be a program or script which takes a
printer name and job number, and deletes the print job.

If a %p is given then the printer name is put in its
place. A %j is replaced with the job number (an integer).

Note that it is good practice to include the absolute path
in the lprm command as the PATH may not be available to the server.

Default: lprm command = # depends on the setting of
printing

  Example: lprm command = /usr/bin/lprm -P%p %j

  Example: lprm command = /usr/bin/cancel %p-%j

Maybe this will help you. There is also a lpq command directive

Kind regards

Juergen Hoffmann
