RE: PC user to OpenVMS share question...
Joseph, given the information you've shared with us, I'd definitely start looking at the permissions. Have you added the new user to the share in SMB.CNF? Does the user have the right privileges to access the VMS directory? Hello, I've install CIFS/Samba on an OpenVMS Itanium v8.4 system. After adding myself into the database, I can map a drive on my PC from my VMS system to my account there, move files between the share and my PC with no problems. If I remove myself, it gives me permission denied as it should. I add myself back in and all works fine again. So I add another user into the database the exact way I added myself but that user cannot map a drive. The account in question is almost identical to mine other than the account name, directory and UIC. He keeps getting prompted for an account/password and no matter what he puts in, it just keeps prompting him. I don't recall doing anything different than when I added my account. Anyone have any ideas on what I'm missing? Re: PC user to OpenVMS share question...
Hi Joe, just check whether your username matches with the UIC identifier from the sysuaf database. This should be same due to some CRTL restrictions. Also you can enable some tracing by editing smb.conf file and redirecting it to the log files. The log level at 3 or 4 should give you sufficient details on what is going wrong. HTH.
