There are also SCSI HOWTOs which are easily googled. Basically you have to load the appropriate kernel module for your card, and the sg module. As to the sane backend, they all get installed when you install sane-backends and they all get probed when you run a frontend. The right one should be chosen automatically. Martin
[sane-devel] STI, USB in Wine
Hi I don't know how many of you follow the wine-devel mailing list, but to get my scanner (Microtek ScanMaker 3800) working under Linux (after months of unsuccessful reverse-engeneering) I've decided to add STI (Still Image) and libusb support to Wine. I am looking for: 1. Someone with good knowledge of Windows to help me with either of those. 2. Some SANE-to-TWAIN converter that would allow wine + Windows drivers to be used as a SANE backend. 3. Ideas and suggestions. Bye Damjan __ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com
[sane-devel] Re: Need recomendation linux/sane compat scanner w/fast 2bit/greyscale ADF
the scanner speed on the 4120C was limited by the speed of the bus. to be honest, i only go up to 200dpi, so i have not tested the speed of the 4120C2 at higher resolutions. i really dont have time this week. i will add it to my long list of things to do, perhaps early next week? allan On Wed, 20 Apr 2005, Jeff Kowalczyk wrote: > m. allan noah wrote: >> i only know fujitsu models, so i am sure there are others, but the >> fi-4120C2 is pretty fast, and the sane support is ok for binary and >> grayscale. > > Thanks for the reply. I just checked with Fujitsu's online support (should have done that first), and they stated that the FI-4120C2 achieves the following rates over SCSI and USB 2.0: 150dpi: 25 ppm 200dpi: 25 ppm 300dpi: 15 ppm 600dpi: 3 ppm quite a notable slowdown, but I think anything in this price range will be similarly affected. It may just be a physical limit of the optical technology, where high resolutions can't be satisfactorily resolved if the paper is moving too quickly through the ADF. Thanks.
[sane-devel] A3 Scanner on Linux
Hi, I'm looking for an A3 scanner, that is still available to buy, that works under Linux. Nothing under 600dpi and preferably more. A USB interface would be best. I've looked around the SANE site but most scanners listed don't mention if they are A3 or not and when I have tracked one down that is A3 USB and works with Linux I then find you can't buy it anymore. Any ideas? Cheers Jonathan
[sane-devel] STI, USB in Wine

Ideas and suggestions. If you already have access to a Windows box, it will be easier to just capture a logfile with usbsnoopy instead of trying to beat the Microtek driver into compliance with Wine. Just a couple logfiles should give you enough info to at least do a simple scan w/o calibration or configuration... FWIW, the sm3840 driver seems to be able to everything except set the right stepper motor controls to move the head along. A couple Russian users have been messing around with it and things like color calibration and gain setting seem OK, and the scanner does feed back data [albeit an image of wherever the head is stuck]. You may want to give it a look-see at http://www.ziplabel.com/sm3840 . It may be as simple as changing the motor control register value, but I don't have a 3800 to work with...
