The lists are current. They are updated whenever a developer updates
his backend (and the respective description file).

Look at the lists (or the scanner search engine). All your scanners
are unsupported or at least untested.

Go to a store that offers a bigger variety of scanners. Or use
Mail-order. Write down the scanners they offer (and that you like) and
enter them into the scanner search engine.

If sane-find-scanner does not finf the scanner it's usually not a SANE
problem but a problem with the hardware (cable, termination etc.) or
the kernel driver.

Does cat /proc/scsi/scsi show the scanner?

[sane-devel] A proper scanner for working throught SANE

2005-05-17 Thread Mohit Kumar
Hi All,

Sorry for this trivial question, but I am just starting to work with
SANE. I was looking to write an application to scan certain documents
as the starting point. For this I need to buy a scanner.
I went through the list on your site but it seems outdated as most of
the models are not currently available in the market. Hence I am
requesting you to tell me which of the following scanners are
"completely" supported by SANE. Complete support is important for
testing aspects.

1. H.P. Scanner 2400
2. H.P. Scanner 3770
3. H.P. Scanner 4070
4. H.P. Scanner 4670
5. H.P. Scanner 8200

These are the scanners available at my local vendor and I wanted to
buy it as soon as possible.

Sorry for troubling.

Thanks,
Mohit

On the other hand, I'll take week of time if I can, maybe in August?

There is no solution, yet (as far as I know). Ok, you can use the SCSI

It means that there is something wrong with the parameter block the
backend sends to the scanner.

Hi,

no, the coolscan 2 backend does not work for it (it fails after starting a
preview, so nothing useful)
I had hoped to be able to make it work but i am still waiting for Nikon to
decide if they are going to provide me the specs under NDA. The fact that
i don't have(don't want to use) a company affiliation seems to
be... bad... i just called and they tell me to wait for another 2 weeks :-(
Some other people have the NDA but not the scanner, so perhaps we should
organize a meeting at some mid-way point ;-)
