[sane-devel] Print server (Dlink DPR 2000)
I've got a Brother DCP7010 (multifunction Scanner + Laser Printer) connected thru USB to a DLINK DPR2000 (an independant print server 4 USB and Wifi). I can access the printer with my different computers thru Wifi. The printing thru the network is OK but Xsane doesn't see the scanner. I'd like to solve this problem, even if it's always possible to scan (but I have to deconnect the multifunction from the print server and connect it directly to the computer). An idea about this ? well, first, the DCP7010 isn't supported yet by SANE, as far as I can tell. The DPR2000 doesn't either. maybe the external backend for brother devices might help you: http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-backends-external.html but your device isn't listed (yet). also, what's within the DPR2000? is ist linux based and can you access it to install new backends? regards Yves 2010/10/6 Vincent Le Mieux vlemieux at nordnet.fr: I've got a Brother DCP7010 (multifunction Scanner + Laser Printer) connected thru USB to a DLINK DPR2000 (an independant print server 4 USB and Wifi). Printserver boxes provide only some kind of unidirectional data transfer from the computer to the printer so that plain printing usually works but usually nothing else. As far as I know only HP Jetdirect printservers provide additionally some SNMP stuff to get HP printer device status and whatever else is needed so that in particular HP's own HPLIP printer/scanner driver software can use HP all-in-one devices for printing, device status, scanning, faxing,... For scanning you need a full bidirectional communication between computer and device. In your case this means you should connect the device directly via USB to the computer at least for a test to find out if whatever scanner driver software you use (perhaps you need whatever driver from Brother) works at all. If it works via direct USB connection, you may experiment with your particular printserver box to find out to what extent it supports bidirectional communication to the device. The scanner part of the multifunction Brother DCP7010 is OK with XSane (the driver comes from Brother : brscan2) Unfortunately, the documentation coming with the Dlink DPR 2000 is very poor. Here is the datasheet : ftp://ftp.dlink.fr/DPR/DPR-2000/Fiche_Technique/DPR-2000_A1_Datasheet.pdf This print server is designed to printing and scanning. My multifunction is not listed in the supported list...but is functionnal in printing ...and I hope it could be the same with scanning.
