So the optical array moves for the slightest bit, goes back, repeats these
two steps, then moves a last time and finally gets stuck after moving just
a bit like before. The LEDs seem to be turned off the whole time.

What kind of computer are you using? A laptop or a desktop? This might be
a power issue.

In general regarding "Configuring Scanners" see
https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_Scanners

You didn't tell what version of sane-backends you use.

In OpenSUSE 13.2 we provide the sane-backends 1.0.24 release
but perhaps you might need a newer sane-backends development
version.

I provide sane-backends version git20150804 RPMs an unstable
development source only for testing, without any guarantee or
warranty, and without any support in my openSUSE build service
home project "home:jsmeix".

Please carefully read
https://build.opensuse.org/project/show?project=home:jsmeix

You can get the packages in the "home:jsmeix" project
for example for openSUSE 13.2 via this direct URL
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/jsmeix/openSUSE_13.2/

When you like to upgrade an installed sane-backends 1.0.24 release
to sane-backends development version git20150804 you need to install
version git20150804 with plain rpm using "--force" e.g. like
# rpm -Uhv --force sane-backends-git20150804-3.1.x86_64.rpm
because for rpm the version number git20150804 is lower than
the installed version number 1.0.24.

Only if your scanner is connected to a USB3 port at the computer:

There are currently issues with USB3 ports at the computer.

Basically the xhci kernel module that is used as driver for
USB3 ports has issues. It seems at least kernel 4.1.1-040101
is needed to have this particular issues fixed in the kernel.

There are some workarounds in newer sane-backends development
versions to deal with the USB3 xhci kernel module issues
in older kernels.

Re: [sane-devel] Unsupported scanner

2015-09-13 Thread Dario Wimmer
it must be. Canon is not actually listing any scanner under the name
"CanoScan 700F" but a "CanoScan LiDe 700F".

There IS a series of scanners called "CanoScan F" without the prefix
"LidDe" but all the serial numbers in this series have four digits instead
of the "LiDe" series' three digits. So maybe this is a misnomer and the
entry "CanoScan 700F" in the list of supported devices should be renamed
to "CanoScan LiDe 700F".

Yup. This scanner requires a non-free plugin in order to work.

See

http://download.ebz.epson.net/dsc/search/01/search/searchModule?productName=V550osCode=LX

You need to install *all* of

  iscan-data_1.36.0-1
  iscan_2.30.1-1~usb0.1.ltdl7
  iscan-plugin-perfection-v550_1.0.0-2

for things to work.

Hope this helps,

[sane-devel] Unsupported Scanner Report - Xerox Documate 510

2011-10-17 Thread Bill Westrup
Hi,

We've got a couple of Xerox Documate 510 scanners we'd like to use for a
network scanning project laying around the office. Unfortunately, it
looks like our device isn't supported, yet by Sane. (Currently, it is
seen as a scanner and will scan but the output is garbled...)

I've attached the output of sane-find-scanner in hopes that one of the
devs would be so kind as to add support for our device.

I'm ready to provide any additional info and perform testing, as well.

Thanks,
Bill

I'll send the information this way too:

It's a USB film scanner. On the inside there are several chips. The
largest and most prominent one has the following text on it:

A smaller one says GL640USB.

if sane-find-scanner cannot guess it, then you will have to open it.
However, this information may not be useful if the chip maker does not
give away documents.

[sane-devel] unsupported scanner info

2006-12-13 Thread m. allan noah
got my hands on a new kodak i1220, a duplex adf letter-sized scanner.
internal codename perhaps piranha?

scanner is a rather unusual tilting design, with some nicely cast
magnesium parts, and a usb HOST port and some sort of other expansion
port (power?) for connecting an external flatbed accessory? guts as
follows-

2x wm8216 wolfsonmicro CCD/CIS ADC's
1x cy7c68013a-128axc cypress Ez-usb FX2 usb/8051 microcontroller
1x usb2502 smsc usb2.0 hub controller
1x idt 71v3556 ZBT SRAM
1x idt 71v124 static ram
1x MT 48LC16M ram

and, the brains of the operation:

1x ep2c20f484c7n Altera Cyclone II FPGA. neat.

i have windows usb traces, looks odd to me, almost entirely control
endpoint work instead of bulk, but i did find a couple minor things like
the serial number being transferred.

i will try to find some time to put these up on the web...
