See the other recent mails about this scanner e.g. from Gerald Murray. Generally, you must enable the ids for that scanner in genesys.conf and check what happens when you try to scan. If it doesn't work, check in the source code at which position and why. Also check/try the different available falgs, motors and so on. If necessary, get a Windows log file and fix the genesys code appropriately. Before using, make sure that the USB scanner device driver is loaded: modprobe scanner That's not necessary any more. So you should add the scanner to that backend. For discussions about the genesys backend please read the archive of this mailing list. Bye, Henning

It gave exactly the same output and works fine - so it doesn't seem like those missing libraries are causing the problem. Both boxes are running essentially identical software so the only differences between them are that, on the box that doesn't work, there is a TV card and the CVS sane version I used was a few days newer (Nov 20). Has something changed in the code recently that might cause this? Could the presence of a tv card be causing the problem? Many thanks, Chris On 11/23/05, Chris s...@geekpages.co.uk wrote: Gerhard, Thank you very much for your reply. I remember originally the dev files for libusb were not installed on Ubuntu. This meant that sane-find-scanner didn't find any devices. I realised this was the problem, installed the dev files, redid the ./configure and forced it to re-make everything. This is where I was at when I got the output in my original email. Are you sure, that the USB subsystem has been setup correctly? I'm afraid I'm still pretty new to linux so I'm not sure how to answer this definitively. I do know that USB pen drives and such work fine on the machine and when I do 'lsusb' with the Canoscan attached it is listed as an attached device. The output of 'sane-config --libs' is as follows: -lsane -lusb -lpthread -lm -ldl So I seem to be missing -ljpeg -lieee1284 -lgphoto2 -lgphoto2_port and -lresmgr Do you think this is the cause of the problem? If so am I right in guessing that I need to find and install some more dev files and re-do the ./configure make? Thanks again! Chris :)
