[sane-devel] improve HP scanner support information
I have just pulled the hpaio.desc file from hplip v 3.9.12. Unfortunately, this file does not give any information about the connection type or usb ID's, so users that search our form using those will not find the scanners. Those that search by name should show up. It would be nice if this could be provided occasionally by HP directly to us. allan On Fri, Sep 18, 2009 at 3:36 AM, Johannes Meixner jsmeix at suse.de wrote: Hello, At least the current HPLIP version 3.9.8 sources contain a scan/sane/hpaio.desc file which is - as far as I see - exactly what is needed. Allan, I see what you mean. My suggestion--for us end-user guys who are not programmers--would be to add the words Deskjet series, Photosmart series, and Laserjet series to the HP listings ordered by printer type (http://www.sane-project.org/sane-mfgs.html). Then leave all the fields blank except the comment. Link to the downloads page -- hplipopensource.com -- This has all the user info, the download, and FAQ stuff. It's user-friendly. The notes under HPAIO link to the sourceforge page, and it's quite confusing to me. I'm just trying to help the next person who comes along. I got the help I needed and I want to make it easier for the next person. I hope this makes sense. m. allan noah wrote: we have such a link: http://www.sane-project.org/lists/sane-backends-external.html#S-HPAIO If the hplip guys would make a .desc file for their backend, we would put it in our site, and it would show up in the search engine.
