Implementing and configuring two Cisco ASA Firewalls in High Availability* Note 1: The engineer would need to have experience on Cisco ASA Firewalls in regards to 8.4(6) - 9.1(2) code, Site to Site VPNs, AnyConnect VPN Client, as well as a good grasp per the order of operation in regards to the Accelerated Security Path (ASP) on the ASA and this comprises of 2 components, the Fast path and Session management path. In addition, per Layer 7 inspection packets may need to be adjusted on the Control Plan Path. With the understanding of these components, you have the tools to troubleshoot as well understanding when a configuration command gets processed. *2. The Web servers per Apache are currently being used as Load Balancers.* One of their concerns was if there was any benefit in moving those processes from the server to the F5 load balancer. There is a huge benefit and my recommendation was to off load as much as possible from the servers to the F5 4200's and allow the server/s to perform what they are meant to do and this is to serve content. Note 2: A good understanding of Oracle DataBase in regards to replication as well as being familiar with clustering technology. In addition, being familiar with HTML and JavaScript per coding into a readable language per backend communication. In addition being familiar with relative and absolute paths per redirects located in the code of the website. If a relative path is configured, the code will need to be updated or we will have to re-write the request back to the client via an IRule. When load balancing HTTPS, you normally decrypt the packet and forward this to the server on a clear text port. If a relative path is defined, it will append the clear text port it was received on. This causes a mixture of secure and unsecure content when rendered. Also per ssl/https cipher formats and strings will be involved which brings me to my next topic as our client needs to meet PCI requirement due to their e-commerce sites. In addition, to knowing what type of persistence to use as well as the algorithm per application type. Understanding caching engine behavior, as well as API's interaction with application servers. In addition to familiarizing yourself with Java, PHP, and/or Python Bindings with the addition of Private and Public Storage Containers per replication, expiring, and versioning of objects. *3. Deployment of the ASM and Akamai.* Note 3: There was also mention of deploying the F5 Application Security Module (ASM). Being familiar with threats like multilayer DDoS attacks, SQL injection, web scraping, JSON Payload per widgets, etc. per tuning as well as having discussions with the client per this knowledge base. In addition, CDN behavior and cloud files will be a factor as Akamai is being used for application acceleration as well as inspecting of Layer 7 and having a DDoS mitigation service in place. *4. Global load balancing* Note 4: They mentioned how the GTM worked per the F5 device and I provided the Information they required. They also mentioned that their current F5 engineer would need to be mentored during this process as the entire infrastructure will be augmented to meet new Industry Standards. Per reviewing their current requirements for this entire augmentation of the environment, a junior engineer will not be suitable for this type of Application Delivery environment per a smooth transition.
