Here is the job description: Position: Mainframe COBOL Developer Location: Pittsburgh, PA Est. Start Date: 9/29/2008 Est. Term: 6 - 9 months *** Local candidates preferred *** *** In-person interview required *** Required Skills: M/F COBOL / TSO/ISPF / JCL Must be knowledgeable about cross-platform interoperability (multiple platforms i.e., NT, Intranet, etc.) and modern and traditional structured methods for developing applications. Objectives/Accountabilities: The incumbent uses existing and emerging technology platforms to design, develop, and document technically detailed applications. Write new complex systems (a grouping of programs involving multiple levels of table dimension and internal sorts that accomplishes a particular new function), designs and codes programs, and creates test transactions. Analyze organizational needs and goals to develop and implement application systems. The qualified candidate will have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience. Must have thorough knowledge of Corporation's IT infrastructure and daily operations and understands the impact of planned changes. Must have knowledge about the functions and features of modern and traditional structured methods for developing applications. Must also have extensive experience developing mainframe applications. Must be knowledgeable about cross-platform interoperability (multiple platforms i.e., NT, Intranet, etc.), major tools in a toolkit for a specific platform and features of multiple toolkits. Must be experienced at resolving hardware, software, and communications malfunctions and understands the business impact of resolving complications.
