We are looking for someone who is detailed oriented and has strong
analytical and problem solving skills.  Someone who could learn and provide
support for our BAU monthly production cycle as opposed to working on
project-related tasks.  Someone who understands the relationship between
the data and the financials.  The responsibilities will include SME
support, building and maintaining business rule transformations, account
and field mappings, GL and BU hierarchy structures, and procedural
documentation, performing reconciliations and data quality review, analysis
and validation.







Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Accounting or related field



 Financial Services or Banking background and business

knowledge especially regarding banking products and financial statements
strongly preferred



 Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills required



 Detail oriented and able to ensure accuracy when working with data



 Ability to multi-task and adhere to deadlines



Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) and SQL query
analyzer



 Team player and ability to adapt to rapidly changing business

environment

*Job Description:*
The Data Analyst is responsible for developing the logical and physical
data base design and documentation for both mainframe and client/server
systems within Sallie Mae.  The Data Analyst is also responsible for
providing metadata management and support to various departments within
systems as well as throughout Sallie Mae.  The individual provides subject
matter expertise in a broad range of Data Management disciplines, including
data normalization techniques and data rationalization.



*A Data Analyst will have:*

¨   A working understanding of data administration concepts,
principles, and industry Best Practices

¨   Experience developing logical and physical data models and
associated meta data in accordance with corporate guidelines and naming
standard conventions

¨   Strong written and verbal communication skills

¨   A thorough understanding and experience with normalization
techniques

¨   Experience with Entity Relationship (ER) Diagramming tools

¨  Actively participates in the development and implementation of
policies and procedures related to development and support of new and
ongoing systems to ensure the integrity of data.

¨  Coordinates data models, dictionaries, and other database
documentation across multiple applications.

¨  Ability to work in a high volume environment.

¨  Works with development teams, migration manager and database
administrator to ensure that the model design and development is properly
updated, loaded and communicated.

¨  Maintains data integrity by working to eliminate redundancy and
adhering to requisite data governance rules set forth by the Bank.

¨  Stays informed of the ways the organization uses its data.

*Functions:*

¨   Logical Data Model
Development   20%

oWork closely with development teams to identify the data required by
the application and business processing.  Data requirements gathering may
be through individual meetings or through conducting Joint Application
Development (JAD) sessions.

oResponsible for developing the logical data model which consists of
developing the entity-relationship diagram (ERD), creating entity and data
item business names and descriptions as well as defining data item valid
values, type and length, and physical target names.

oMeta data management including the enforcement of standards and naming
convention.

oDocument all deliverables within the ER diagramming tool

¨   Physical Data Model
Development
30%

oResponsible for the process of data normalization as well as working
closely with the DBA to reach a consensus on the physical data base design.

oDocument all primary and foreign keys, indexes and constraints

oGenerate DDL/Alter table scripts for implementation by the DBAs

¨   Meta Data
Support

oRespond to ad hoc requests regarding metadata information on the
various systems that DM supports.

oEstablish and maintain constructive user relationships to better
manage user expectations.

oSupport data rationalization efforts and develop data models using
Select SE and ERWIN.

oDetermine appropriate enterprise-wide data strategy and articulate
tasks to help move the organization towards the strategy.

oCoordinate the completion of data base change requests within the Data
Management team

oWork with clients to complete data base change requests in a timely
manner.

oComplete deliverables that are consistent, accurate, and follow all
corporate naming conventions and guidelines.

oComplete metrics and auditing information for reporting purposes.

*Mandatory Skills and Requirements: *

o  Experience with configuration management concepts, practices, and
procedures relative to data modeling in a high volume environment.

o   Experience with data modeling tools, practices, approaches.

o  Ability to operate a PC or CRT

o   Ability to understand business problems and translate these problems
into automated and non-automated solutions

o   Knowledge of data administration principles

o   Knowledge of logical and physical data base design techniques

o   People management skills, including the ability to direct, counsel,
lead, and motivate staff in a matrix environment.
