*The Role*
Client a not-for-profit digital preservation service, is among the largest
community-supported digital archives in the world. Working with libraries
and publishers, client preserves e-journals, e-books, and other electronic
scholarly content to ensure researchers and students will have access to it
in the future. The client archive currently preserves more than 60 million
digital objects (journal articles, eBooks, newspapers, and other digitized
historical artifacts), totaling more 1 billion files over 260 TB. It is
currently growing at the rate of 10TB per month.
This position is an opportunity to join with client in creating its
next-generation technical infrastructure. The person in this role will have
the opportunity to support this archive's increasing growth, as well as to
develop new features in support of the new, dynamic artifacts that now
comprise part of the scholarly record.
Software development teams work in an agile environment and believe in
continuous improvement of both products and processes. all team members are
strongly encouraged to share their inputs and own the decisions.
The team is seeking a *Senior Software Engineer* who can take advantage of
the latest tools and technologies to build the stable, scalable, elastic
infrastructure that will support the next generation of preservation
services.


*Skills, Experience, and Characteristics:*
The successful candidate will have applicable leadership experience,
experience with large-scale distributed web applications, a high degree of
intellectual curiosity, excellent problem solving skills, and strong
communication and interpersonal skills.

   - Excellent knowledge of object-oriented design and development concepts
   and practices.
   - Expertise in Java and J2EE, including web and messaging technologies.
   - Expertise with Spring framework, including Spring MVC and Spring Batch
   - Experience with web application development in Java and including full
   web technology stack (e.g. HTTP, cookies, headers, caching, and security)
   - Experience as a Technical Lead on a large complex project
   - Experience architecting and building web scale/high volume systems
   - Experience building RESTful web services
   - Experience with RDBMS and Java ORM frameworks(eg., Oracle, Hibernate,
   etc)
   - Experience with Linux, shell scripting or other scripting languages
   - Willingness and ability to learn new approaches and emerging
   technologies quickly
   - Strong communication and interpersonal skills
   - Advanced problem solving skills

*Additional Desired Skills:*

   - Experience with using Spring cloud and Docker is highly desirable.
   - Experience or familiarity through self-study and experimentation with
   one or more cloud providers
   - Experience working on large-scale enterprise content management
   systems such as Documentum, Vignette, etc.
   - Experience with NoSQL databases
   - Experience working in an agile software development environment
   - Experience with distributed source code management such as Git
   - Experience with XML parsing and transformation using XSLT
   - Familiarity with networks and load balancing
   - BS or MS in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent work

Senior Software Engineer (Java) The individual will be responsible for
working with a team of 3 to 8 developers to develop enterprise level
applications.

You will be responsible for delivering high quality code and working
closely with team members.



Responsibilities Include:

Being a team player and adhering to project schedule

Writing code enhancements and supporting existing code

Providing guidance to junior developers in the team

Working closely with testing team





Minimum Requirements:

At least 5 years of experience in development of Java web applications

Hands on experience in Core Java and J2EE technologies (EJB, JSP, Servlets,
JMS, Web Services)

Hands on with any of the IDE (Eclipse, Netbeans etc) and Application
Servers (Websphere, Weblogic, Tomcat etc)

Experience with SQL and Databases (DB2, Oracle or SQL Server)

Experience in working on AIX / Solaris / Linux platforms

Working Knowledge of Object oriented programming and SOA

Must be proficient in the full development lifecycle



Good knowledge in latest technologies (MVC/Spring and Hibernate) is a plus

Strong relationship management skills, including exceptional communication
skills and a proven track record of anticipating client needs and exceeding
expectations.
