Job Responsibilities
-Oversees the operation of computer hardware systems, including monitoring and scheduling batch work.
-Performs processing of printed output utilizing high speed laser cut sheet printer. Read and follow job set-up instructions. Respond to program error messages by finding and correcting problems, terminating the program or notifying appropriate personnel.
-Cleaning and daily maintenance of printers and other Data Center equipment. Routine quality checks of printed output. 
-Monitors the system for equipment failure or errors in performance and notifies computer service technicians or system programmers of equipment malfunctions. This includes IBM, Ricoh and all other equipment. Notify system programmer of any failures in mainframe hardware or software communication. 
-Enter commands, using computer terminal, and activate controls on computer and peripheral equipment to integrate and operate equipment. 
-Proper distribution of printed output. Retrieves, separates, and sorts program output as needed, and sends data to specified users. Loads peripheral equipment with required supplies for operations including perforated / non-perforated laser cut sheet paper, toner and other supplies as needed. Perform removal of waste paper from the laser printer punch unit. 
-Inventory and ordering of forms located in the Data Center.
-Preparing and receiving tapes for off-site distribution and maintaining records for the Data Center. 
-Assist system programmers in other higher level functions when required.
-Performs other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements
Must have experience with z/OS, JES2, SDSF, VTAM, CICS, RACF, TCP/IP, TSO and ISPF.
Working knowledge of job scheduling software.
Ability to read and comprehend technical documents and use that knowledge for practical application.
Working knowledge of all computer systems, software, and hardware.
Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of forty pounds.
Ability to participate and contribute towards highly effective teams.
Knowledge of auditing or verifying information or data.
Ability to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and resolve problems.

IBM mainframe computer operator to work a flexible shift that will include working all holidays and some weekends when shift coverage is lighter than normal. This coverage will also include working weekdays during non-holiday and weekend work.
Under general supervision, monitors and operates a large IBM mainframe multi-processor computer system and its related peripheral hardware to process the agency's daily scheduled computerized workload. Prepares and distributes all printed output to user departments; operates and maintains tape drive and library; and identifies and resolves technical problems. Ensures online system availability to all Department of Labor users state-wide.
Experience as a computer operator on an IBM mainframe computer.
Experience with z/OS, JES2 and TSO.
Experience with IBM’s 3494 Tape Library.
Experience with IBM’s 3995 Optical Library.
Experience with Xerox’s DocuPrint 100MX and 155MX printers.
Experience with Microsoft’s Word.
Description:-
This individual will likely work 3rd shift. These work hours begin at 11:00 PM and end at 7:30 AM. However, it is also likely this person will be asked to work the weekend shift if this need arises. Holiday and weekend work will be required. Consults with users to provide advice, training, and maintenance support.

1. Installs microcomputer system hardware, software, and related peripherals in accordance with departmental procedures and technical manuals.
A. Installs and configures PC hardware and peripherals (printers, modems, mice, tape drives, CD-ROMS, video cards) to meet user requirements.
B. Connects/disconnects PCs and printers to the network. Attaches network cables at switch and PC or printer.
C. Assigns workstation and LU names for PCs being added to the network.
D. Installs related software (Windows, UNIX, applications, network drivers) needed for proper functioning of the complete system and all interconnected devices.
E.Configures Radius dial-in software on non-networked PCs.
F. Upgrades or repairs existing PC equipment by replacing or adding memory, floppy disk drives, hard drives, motherboards, and I/O cards as required.
G. Develops and tests images for department PCs.

2. Provide all required information to assure a complete and accurate equipment inventory.
A. Unpacks/packs computer equipment.
B. Receives, checks in, and inventories equipment. Reports all inventory transfers.
C. Records inventory information.

3. Provides direct support for workstation requests and issues.
A. Responds to workstation related trouble calls.
B. Provide PC related support to IT Coordinators via telephone and e-mail.
C. Process requests for LAN user accounts.
D. Troubleshoots individual PC problems resulting from SMS pushes.
E. Updates Remedy tickets.

4. Performs other duties as required

Qualifications
1.Completion of a high school level of course work with attainment of a high school diploma or possession of a state High School Equivalency Certificate (GED) is required. Additional course work or technical training computer science or PC hardware is required.
2. A minimum of two years of experience performing installation, repair, and troubleshooting of computer hardware and software is required.
3. Certifications: MCSA or MCP preferred. 
4. Specific knowledge required in the following areas:
A. LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, IBM, Remedy, MS Windows

5. The ability to install and configure PC hardware, peripherals, and software in both a network and stand-alone environment is required. The ability to use diagnostic software is required.
6. The ability to read and understand and technical manuals and schematics is required. The ability to assemble a microcomputer system is required.
7. Effective verbal communication skills are required to work with all levels of the organization including management and various PENNDOT personnel. Effective writing skills are required in order to document work performed.
8. Superior interpersonal and customer service skills required including ability to work effectively in a team environment. High level of proficiency in effective problem solving required.

Working Conditions
Weekend, shift work, holiday, on-call and overtime may be required.
Work requires lifting of equipment.
Work may require travel to and from the various PENNDOT locations.
