*DESCRIPTION*

Manages the administration of enterprise databases throughout the
organization, ensuring that all databases provide maximum availability and
are operating as efficiently and productively as possible.  Oversees the
design, maintenance and implementation of the systems that manage internal
databases.   Analyzes the organizations database needs and develops a
long-term strategy for data storage.  Establishes policies and procedures
related to data security and integrity and monitors and limits database
access as needed.  Provides guidance to and sets work assignments for
database administrators.



*MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  *

•Provide leadership and supervision to database administration team
members, including work scheduling and professional development

•Performs technical design, development, testing, and manages
implementation and production support activities for databases to host
complex business applications.

•Manages upgrades to database environments, maintaining them at current
release levels

•Develops and manages technical solutions for system changes, upgrades and
disaster recovery situations

•Develop, test, and manages technical improvements to system configuration
and operation

•Ensures appropriate database monitoring and follow-up actions occur to
provide high levels of service, performance, capacity, and availability

•Provide technical expertise for systems planning, development and
maintenance activities

•Oversees database implementations and conversions

•Track and manage appropriate software license usage and ensure compliance
with all license agreements

•Implements appropriate procedures, technologies and techniques to deliver
performance, data protection, data security, high availability, and
business continuity

•Designs, implements, and manages appropriate standardized procedures for
production activities such as backup, recovery, archiving, scheduled
reporting, system updates, and database updates

•Evaluates and recommends solutions from third party vendors

•Manages supplier relationships

•Conduct team activities following established department guidelines and
standard tools – IT service management (ISO 20000), work and project
management (PRINCE2), information security, etc.

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

•Three to five (3-5) years management experience in database administration

•Four (4) to seven (7) years of database administration experience in
Oracle

•Two (2) or more years of database administration experience MS SQL Server

•Experience/expertise in the following technologies – Oracle Enterprise
Manager (OEM), Oracle RAC, Oracle MAA, Shareplex, Oracle Warehouse Builder,
Oracle Application Server and Portal, Oracle Business Intelligence

•Experience/expertise in one or more of the following technologies –PL/SQL,
T/SQL,

•Experience/expertise in one or more of the following technologies – Unix,
Linux, MS Windows with preference given to Unix experience

•Proven skills in database capacity planning and performance management

•Experience in one or more of the following areas is required – data
modeling, object oriented design, developer tools, development
methodologies, and data warehousing

•Strong customer service orientation; exceptional knowledge of service and
application delivery as well as successful service level agreement
accomplishments

•Demonstrated leadership, personnel, and project management skills; ability
to work in a collaborative team environment as well as independently

•Strong verbal/written communication, interpersonal, and presentation
skills.  Must be able to effectively communicate with and convey technical
concepts to technical and non-technical personnel.  Ability to interface
and coordinate work efficiently and effectively with people in remote
locations is required.

•Exceptional knowledge of service and application delivery, as well as
successful service level agreement accomplishments.

•Hands-on experience in troubleshooting hardware and software.

•Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities; proven ability
to resolve complex problems and drive solutions

•Ability to work with suppliers/vendors of hardware, software, and
telecommunications technical products and services

•Wide-ranging technical knowledge and proficiency across multiple
technologies, protocols, services, and platforms

•Ability to make sound and logical judgments.

•Highly self motivated and directed

•Attention to detail and ability to follow specific processes

•Demonstrated leadership, personnel, and project management skills.

•Masters degree required OR BS/BA with equivalent work
