Job Purpose/ Description:

The Solution Architect (SA) is responsible for hands-on design of the
application hosting platform. Beginning with the planning and design stages,
this person will identify & document performance, availability and
non-functional system requirements for operation, and work with utility
managers and product engineers to develop technical designs that meet or
exceed the requirements within the budgeted constraints and that are
cost-effectively maintainable. The SA will integrate products components,
and lead technical test, deployment and support of hosting related projects.

Using a practical background in software development and systems and network
engineering, this person will help establish efficient technical review,
design, deployment, and support processes, including tools and environments
that can be widely deployed for hosting services. Apply breadth and depth of
technology expertise to ensure solution designs conform to reference
architectures and relevant concerns. Provides detailed expertise and
consulting services to advance the development of reference architecture.
Reviews work of and mentors other architects. The SA is also responsible for
contributing to the structure of governance, controls, insight and thought
leadership to drive effective life cycle optimization of Client’s technology
infrastructure.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Identify, design and implement flexible, responsive, and secure technology
reference architectures
• Research and evaluate infrastructure strategies, hardware/software,
security and networking products
• Advise management of options, risk vs. cost, benefits and other impacts of
infrastructure solutions
• Set technical infrastructure, security and networking standards and
procedures
• Develop and document infrastructure support policies and guidelines
• Monitor trends and recommend future architecture strategies
• Educate and mentor IT support staff as needed, including requisite
training on technology and governance
• Provide Tier-3 support and participate in 24x7 on-call incident escalation
rotations
• Develop and implement cost optimization strategies for solution stacks and
within and across technology stack layers.
• Leads the solution review processes to provide the Architecture Review
Board with a recommendation on whether solutions conform with approved
reference architectures and have covered all relevant concerns
• Representative on local architecture governance bodies and the Technology
Design Authority as subject matter expert
• Performs complex analysis of infrastructure solution designs and reference
architectures to optimize the enterprise technology environment.
• Viewed as an expert resource in IT architecture, and is sought after to
provide detailed expertise and consulting services on multiple architecture
/ technology disciplines
• Stays current on technology through a variety of sources such as training,
independent research, involvement with external standard-setting groups,
etc.
• Leads cross-functional teams at the request of the Service Delivery team
to resolve complex technology issues.
• Able to influence, build consensus, and drive decisions of diverse groups
in a timely fashion, without direct line authority over the groups
• Able to effectively debate multiple viewpoints of a situation on factual
merits, without imparting emotional judgment
• Challenges others to move and align with architecture directions
• Ensure architecture artifacts are available in an easy, usable form to
those who need it through presentations, meetings, publications, etc.

Required education/experience:

Education

Bachelor or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related
discipline, Master Degree or MBA preferred

Experience

5+ years progressive working experience with a broad range of hardware,
networking and security solutions. Demonstrated experience designing system
architectures and implementing related solutions. Experience creating,
troubleshooting and supporting multi-site, multi-tier system environments,
and corporate Data Center facilities. Familiarity with the creation and
authoring of reference architectures. Experience managing or supervising
teams of technology professionals desired. Participation in technology
governance boards or councils preferred.

The Solutions Architect will be responsible for, but not limited, to the
following:

   1. Accountability for the technical components of the design and
   successful operation of solutions
   2. Provide deep technical/architecture guidance to project teams
   3. Work with Business Partners, project leadership, business analysts,
   data and technical architects and business sponsors to ensure that business
   requirements are met through developed solutions
   4. Responsible for the delivery of architecture artifacts that will
   demonstrate the projects adherence to strategy, design patterns, and best
   practices
   5. Responsible for the identification and availability of assets or
   services that can be re-used by the project teams to drive consistency, cost
   reduction, and increases speed to market
   6. Collaborate with other architects and technical leaders across the
   organization to develop best practices
   7. Provide detailed guidance and direction for design and implementation
   of development frameworks and design patterns for consumption across
   multiple development teams
   8. Create, communicate and improve the governing principles, standards
   and models that detail technical landscapes by reconciling various
   stakeholder requirements
   9. Establish and develop architectural governance team(s) and processes
   to guide and sanction critical architectural decisions
   10. Review existing documentation and processes around special education
   to ensure a strong understanding of existing systems



*Skills*

   1. Bachelor’s degree with 12+ years of applicable work experience with at
   least 5 or more years of experience as a Solution Architect or Technical
   Team Lead
   2. Demonstrated experience with systems architectural concepts and
   frameworks
   3. Capable of translating and presenting technical concepts into
   practical business terms for leaders both small and large group settings
   4. Knowledge of cloud computing platforms – Amazon Web Services,
   SalesForce.com, Azure, Google App. Engine, strongly preferred
   5. Must have hands-on programming experience on the Java platform
   6. Knowledge of K -12 educational technology landscape, including:
   student learning management systems, assessment management software, and
   curriculum-based data management tool will be a strong plus
   7. 10+ years of experience in enterprise platform product implementation
   with broad exposure to different industry leading technologies such as MS
   .NET, Web Services/SOA/ESB, Messaging, Oracle, SQL, etc.
   8. Knowledge and experience with Agile and object-oriented methodologies,
   notations, and processes: Rational Unified Process, Extreme Programming,
   Unified Modeling Language (UML), design patterns
   9. Extensive experience designing and/or developing solutions in a
   Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
   10. Familiar with Use Case Analysis, UML diagramming, Object Oriented
   Design and -   Analysis
   11. Familiar with web services, WSDL, Simple Object Access Protocol
   (SOAP), XML, XSD
   12. Ability to interface and influence people at multiple levels within
   the organization
   13. Strong knowledge of all facets of systems development and operations
   scenarios
   14. Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines with attention to
   detail.
