Engineer in the Editorial & Content Technologies organization. This person
will be responsible for delivering on the implementation of large scale and
complex projects using Big Data technologies and will also need to share
Big Data expertise and best practices with the other team members.

Primary Job Duties:
• Provide strong Big Data design, development and coding expertise on
large, compex projects.
• Participate in the full life-cycle of software development; including
analysis, design, implementation and testing of new projects and features
using Spark, Scala, Java and other Big Data technologies.
• Share and communicate technical knowledge, expertise and best practices
to the other developers on the team related to Big Data technologies.
• Provide development estimates and timelines and track progress against
these timelines. Responsible for providing progress update reports and
informing management of issues.
• Identify process and technology practices related to architecture and
development that can improve efficiency and add business value.
• Generate innovative approaches and solutions to technology challenges.

Qualifications / Requirements
• BS/BA in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related
studies (Masters desired)
• Direct professional hands on experience developing Big Data applications
using Spark, Scala and Java
• At least two years of experience with Hadoop, HDFS, and MapReduce or Hive
• At least one year of experience with Scala and Spark, Avro, and Parquet
• Experience with other Hadoop related technologies such as HBase, Sqoop,
Oozie and Kafka
• Linked Data, Docker, Datameer/Platfora and Cask CDAP experience a bonus
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment to deliver results with
aggressive deadlines and multiple priorities and exhibit technical
leadership
• Demonstrated ability to mentor/train other developers on Big Data
technologies
• Proven track record of being able to solve complex problems independently
and to seek out and generate innovative solutions
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Experience on project using an Agile software development methodology a
plus

Job Summary:
The role of the Sr. Software Engineer is to work with Technical Lead and is
responsible for designing, executing, assessing, and troubleshooting
software programs and applications. This includes configuring, coding,
developing, and documenting software specifications throughout the project
life cycle of our large heterogeneous data back end applications that
include several data sources, a number of servers, developed and run by
distributed international team.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Design, develop, test, and deploy new software solutions, enhancements,
and bug fixes.
• Provide directions for refactoring, code review and training.
• Consistently write, translate, and code software programs and
applications according to specifications.
• Run and monitor performance and quality tests on new and existing
software for the purposes of correcting mistakes, isolating areas for
improvement, and general debugging.
• Determine, develop, and maintain user manuals, training materials and
documentation.
• Plan phases of the software development life cycle (SDLC) for a variety
of projects.
• Lead in the preparation and documentation of software requirements and
specifications.
• Design and implement long-term strategic goals and short-term tactical
plans for managing and maintaining software.
• Conduct research on emerging technologies in support of systems
development efforts, and recommend technologies that will improve
performance and/or functionality.
• Confer with end-users, clients, and/or senior management to define
business requirements for application development.
• Model business and application processes based on findings through use
case scenarios, workflow diagrams, and data models.

Education and Previous Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience in
software development
• 10+ years related experience and/or training

Knowledge & Skills:
• 10+ years’ of technical experience with emphasis in Java, J2EE, Object
oriented
• 6+ years of experience in Search engines like Elastic search, Solr etc
• 4+ years of experience in all the phases of Elastic search
• 6+ years transact SQL/stored procedure development experience
• Strong in Linux, Linux/BSD command line skills, understanding of Linux
environment/Kernel calls
• 6+ Good in XML, XSLT, XPATH
• Hands-on experience with full SDLC.
• Source Code Management systems - Github
• Ability to understand quickly the entire system and all of its
interactions, and able to tackle macro problems and dive into the different
parts of the system effectively as necessary on short notice
• Effective technical communication skills
• Ability to work in a team environment
Other skills
• Must be a self-starter, and able to work independently with minimal
supervision and also should have the ability to mentor 3+ team members
• Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Must be a Team player, with strong reasoning skills, who is able to
effectively influence others, and who possesses excellent collaboration
skills.
• Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
