*SUMMARY*

Senior Java Software Engineer will develop and sustain Cox’s Customer
Facing Applications that support the Cox Business product lines. This is a
hands-on development position with experience designing and developing high
quality systems using the J2EE stack. This developer is expected to write
programs to maintain computer systems software for networked and complex
systems. They will also facilitate testing of these applications and
platforms through the existing Development, Quality, and Performance
environments and provide documentation and best practices for the
Technology Operations teams for production deployment.  As a senior
developer this person will provide direction for other team members in
terms of architecture, design, code review, implementation model and
documentation.  They will also research new technologies and solutions for
forward-looking design considerations as the platforms evolve.



*RESPONSIBILITITES *

   1. Responsible for converting technical requirements into design
   documents
   2. Maps workflow and creates design specifications based on functional
   requirements;
   3. Works closely with end users and corporate sponsors during the User
   Acceptance Testing phase of the project to ensure that any and all
   necessary changes to the application can be accommodated to meet user
   requirements while also honoring timeline and budget restrictions;
   4. Interfaces as necessary with all critical integration points to
   insure that applications are integrating successfully and efficiently with
   all requested applications;
   5. Conducts necessary internal quality assurance, system testing, and
   load testing to ensure that the application is of high quality when
   released to users for the User Acceptance Testing phase of the project
   (manage all necessary migration of software code to/from the respective
   environments - development, quality assurance, training);
   6. Completes all technical development tasks pertaining to applications
   per approved projects and allocated budgets;
   7. Interfaces extensively with functional users to confirm the
   applicability of design alternatives, identifies and recommends cost
   effective options, and address user concerns;
   8. Provides detailed deployment documentation to the support group to
   insure preparedness to deploy new releases into the production environment
   within the SLA windows
   9. Configures, analyzes, designs, develops, and maintains program code
   and applications to support business processes and functions; works on
   large, complex installations;
   10. At the lower levels, responsibilities may focus primarily on simple
   systems analysis and development activities.  At the senior level
   positions, responsibilities may focus primarily on *design and
   development of innovative business solution systems*.
   11. Help mentor and guide more junior team members.
   12. Research and evaluate new applications that will provide new
   improved feature functionality and efficiencies to optimize the existing
   code base.
   13. Research and documentation of application best practices for
   performance, security, and stability.
   14. Ability to work on *both front end and backend systems* of the
   application.
   15. Ability to perform with *limited supervision*.
   16. Ability to manage *multiple projects at one time*.
   17. Ability to lead others with no direct supervision responsibility.



*QUALIFICATIONS*

   7+ years of experience required in related field;

   4. Strong oral and written communication skills are required.  Must be

   7. Must be able to demonstrate strong knowledge of *Design Patterns*.
   8. Must be able to demonstrate strong knowledge and experience of
   designing applications that are scalable, reusable an structured.

Our client is seeking a Front End Java Developer to join their team
supporting the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Within the
CDC, this person will be working within the National Center for HIV/AIDS,
Viral Hepatitis, STD, and TB Prevention (NCHHSTP) supporting the Division
of Tuberculosis Elimination. This position is part of a dynamic team
building an advanced data collection and surveillance solutions. These
systems support the agency’s public health mission to protect the U.S.
population from natural and man-made disease threats. The individual will
provide technology leadership in the area of Java and JEE development and
will focus on delivering high quality enterprise applications as part of a
development team. This individual is expected to participate in the full
software development lifecycle from requirements and development to testing
and support. In addition to performing software development, this person is
expected to participate in architecture, design, estimation, status
determination, testing efforts and enhancements to existing as well as new
systems.

This is a matrixed project environment and this candidate will be heavily
involved with two projects primarily: 1.) Tuberculosis Epidemiologic
Studies Consortium (TBESC) - allows the CDC to develop new and more
effective diagnostic, therapeutic, and operational approaches to combat
active TB and latent TB infection (LTBI). DTBE has contributed
significantly to this effort. 2.) Tuberculosis Trials Consortium (TBTC) -
The TBTC is a collaboration of researchers from the CDC, domestic and
international public health departments, academic medical centers, and
selected Veterans Administration medical centers whose mission is to
conduct programmatically relevant research concerning the diagnosis,
clinical management, and prevention of tuberculosis (TB) infection and
disease.

In September 2001, DTBE funded 21 sites that had successfully competed for

domestic. Each site represents a formal partnership between an academic
institution and a TB control program. Collectively, sites are charged with
designing, conducting, and evaluating programmatically relevant
research--epidemiologic, behavioral, economic, laboratory, and
operations--concerning the identification, diagnosis, prevention, and
control of active TB disease and latent TB infection. Specific multi-site
and multiyear research projects are funded by individual task order
contracts with consortium members. Project concepts and proposals are
developed collaboratively among consortium members, including CDC staff. It
is intended that the TBESC will strengthen the scientific underpinnings of
future TB control efforts and help the United States achieve the goal of
eliminating TB.

The resurgence of TB in the United States from 1986 to 1992 reminded the
nation of the continued threat posed by this disease. In response, plans
for TB control were revised and updated and TB elimination plans were
developed. These included renewed efforts to develop new and more effective
diagnostic, therapeutic, and operational approaches to combat active TB and
latent TB infection (LTBI). DTBE has contributed significantly to this
effort.

The mission of the Division of Tuberculosis Elimination (DTBE) is to
promote health and quality of life by preventing, controlling, and
eventually eliminating tuberculosis from the United States, and by
collaborating with other countries and international partners in
controlling global tuberculosis.
