Just to note, before the CVS change last week, it did work,

and you did allow it, whether intentionally or not.

Hi,

I think it would be rather usefull in

the /admin/groupedit-add.php when inserting the new

project into the db, to insert also the actual

timestamp in the column register-time.

Otherwise the projects created by the site-admin won´t

be visible on the start-page.

Or is this desired for a special reason?

Hi,

I'm evaluating the project you submitted for approval in Savannah.

baseado no Slackware, incluindo KDE (em português), Netscape, K3B, kernel

 Other Software Required:
Sistema operaciona base como sendo o Windows 9x, 200, ou XP.

Please write your description in English.

BTW, note that
Even though your project is Free Software it can not be hosted
here. We only host projects that can run on a free operating
system (such as Debian GNU/Linux).

We have adopted this policy because now that completely free operating
systems exist, we do not want to encourage users of those systems to
start using proprietary operating systems so that they can use your
program.

If you are willing to maintain a version for free operating systems,
which work as well as or better than other ports, you can
then provide versions for nonfree systems as well. The idea is that at
no point should only-free users be at a disadvantage compared to users of
proprietary software.

Your project should always work equally well in free systems as in any
other version you provide; if you have some modules for nonfree
systems, you can delay their release until you have released the free
operating system version.

If you accept this commitment then please register your project again
and it should be approved in Savannah.

Thank you for your understanding.

Regards,

[Savannah-hackers] [Savannah] seekit want to be a GNU package

2003-09-22 Thread savannah-hackers
Hi,

The following project was submitted to Savannah. It needs evaluation to
become a GNU package, can you give it a look, please ?

Submitter: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Project Full Name: SeekIT
Project System Name: seekit
License: gpl
Approval URL: https://savannah.gnu.org/admin/groupedit.php?group_id=5314
Description: The purpose of our project is to have a tool on a GNU/Linux or Windows
machine, that help us to find those things we can't remember where they are, instead
of having to search through all yor media collection. Main difference between this
tool and others is that SeekIT indexes the content of different paths or medias, and
stores, being able to return fast results of searches through its media collection.

It's being developed using C# and the Mono compiler (http://www.go-mono.com), in order
to get OS

portability. It has also been splited into different parts, which allow us to
reimplement some of these parts, making them act as if they were plugins. For example,
the user interface can be a GTK one, a web one, or whatever kind you could think of.

Furthermore it internally works with XML data, making it easy to translate it into
another formats like HTML, PDF ... (TODO). We are planing some improvements like
user-password security, SSL communications between clients and servers and server
intercomunication in order to synchronize and share it's collections.

Source code available on
http://www.aditel.org/~dpecos/projects/seekit/bin/seekit-0.5.1.tar.gz

My point of view is that the most important (for me) is a

'files download' statistics. I think it is a really good way

to estimate the number of 'users' of a project and so to

motivate the hackers team.

Others statistics (for HTML site visits) can be falsed:

visitors can have been redirected to my page because of a

wrong web search engine pattern.

But do not misunderstand: even without statistics, Savannah

is great.

I think it the only thing missing on this wonderfully

savannah project is statistic.

By statistic i mean statistic by individual project and by

files.

But please make it easy to read!

I don't thing we need that much information as webalizer

provide. The primary use for me would be numbers of visits

and when. them numbers of download files by filenames.

Keep it up!!!

You are doing a great job.

[Savannah-hackers] CVS anonymous access enhancement proposal

2003-09-22 Thread Vincent Caron
Hello hackers,

after seeing some recurring issues from people migrating
projects/usage from SourceForge (that includes me!), I have some 'fixes'
to propose to you, comments on each one are very welcome :

1- SourceForge and many other sites tend to use the convention
'anonymous/(empty)' as a convention for the anonymous pserver access.
Wishes in order of preference :

1a- modify sv_cvs so that both account 'anoncvs:anoncvs' and
'anonymous:' are created

1b- write a script that updates all untouched CVSROOT/passwd from
Savannah projects to add retroactively the 'anonymous:' user

1c- maybe prefer documenting the 'anonymous:(empty)' access in the
Savannah docs (in 5 years experience with CVS I believe it is the most
widely used and expected)

2- The handy sv.gnu.org alias to savannah.gnu.org is not listening for
incoming pserver (2401/TCP). If it does not compromise the security
scheme of Savannah, it would be useful if we could pserver' on
sv.gnu.org directly (hence the CC to Paul).

License: gpl
Other License:
Package: SlagPanic
System name: slagpanic
Type: non-GNU

Description:
SlagPanic is an arcade-like game written in the Python

programming language, using the Pygame library.

SlagPanic is 2D game, 2 players mode is available.

This program has been written on Gnu/Linux, but it should work on

all the platfroms supported by Python and Pygame.

There is also a little C++ module, that require to be compiled

to work. However it is possible to use the Python version of this

module.

The latest (non-working) version of SlagPanic (with the C++ module compiled for

Gnu/Linux):

[Savannah-hackers] [support #101469] [sv software] Page statistics/log files?

Regarding the page statistics, it looks like SourceForge is

providing a logotype image on each page as a counter. The

image is returned by CGI script (or similar) that also

increases a project page counter.

A similar, but simpler, method can be used with Savannah.

You'll need a personal web site with good statistics and

they you simply include an image from that site on each

page. I.e. add an img tag with

src=http://yoursite/image.jpeg; in each HTML file.

I've used this technique with my own projects here

(Grammatica and Mibble) with good results. With the referrer

URLs you even get exact counts per web page.

Note: This does not solve the download statistics issue.

AFAIK that would require processing the access logs.

I also just wanted to insert a me too.

But do not misunderstand: even without statistics, Savannah

is great.

Hi,

I can´t find where the $sys_pending_user_permissions

array will be initialised.

I have problems with the /account/change_groups.php

skript where the user can do a request for inclusion.

For that reason the $sys_pending_user_permissions[0]

has to be 'P'.

But unfortunately I can´t find the initialisation of

the array neither in the frontend/php directory nor in

the database or anywhere else.

[Savannah-hackers] submission of Snake Jerky - Persistent Python Object Store - savannah.nongnu.org

2003-09-22 Thread smoonen

A package was submitted to savannah.nongnu.org
This mail was sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Scott Moonen [EMAIL PROTECTED] described the package as follows:
License: mbsd
Other License:
Package: Snake Jerky - Persistent Python Object Store
System name: snakejerky
Type: non-GNU

Description:
This project provides a persistent object store for the Python

programming language. It accomplishes this with several levels of

abstraction. Level 1 manages pages in mmap'ed storage. Level 2 is a

heap manager that provides the ability to allocate and free mmap'ed

storage. Level 3 provides for the management of a rudimentary set of

mmap'ed objects (integers, floats, strings, lists, and dictionaries).

Level 4 exposes these mmap'ed objects to Python for use as persistent

objects. A Python base class provides the final layer of

abstraction, allowing full-fledged Python objects to be stored in the

persistent object store. Rudimentary synchronization is provided to

allow for multi-threaded and multi-process access to the object

store.

The source for this project can be found at

http://jot.andstuff.org/persist.tar.gz.

Other Software Required:
This project depends on GCC (for the use of assembler statements for

low-level compare-and-swap operations) and on Python 2.1 or greater.

Hi,

I approved your project, however: do not forgot to include a plain
text copy of the full GPL in your packages ; please refer to mpg321
instead of mpg123, which is non-free software.

in clear text when using HTTP, therefore it would not make

sense to crypt them (anyway Mailman has no crypt module that

I am aware of).

[Savannah-hackers] submission of Narya Forum and Project Incubator - savannah.nongnu.org

2003-09-22 Thread anansi

A package was submitted to savannah.nongnu.org
This mail was sent to [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Terry Hancock [EMAIL PROTECTED] described the package as follows:
License: gpl
Other License:
Package: Narya Forum and Project Incubator
System name: narya
Type: non-GNU

Description:
The Narya Project is a web-application-based Forum and Project-Incubator which will
(eventually) combine discussion, workflow and content management, collaborative
development, full-text document and data archive, brick-and-mortar library
integration, collective financing, reverse auction, catalog sales, and manufacturing
and service resource planning into an open free-market model based on the principles
of open-source development. Its central design paradigm is a hierarchical topic tree
with multiple topic views derived from content and integrated applications.

More detail is available at http://www.narya.net and links thereunder.

The last published source code may be found in the Sourceforge project CVS for
http://sourceforge.net/projects/spacelift . I am currently in the middle of a massive
reorganization of the code, and have not uploaded the result. However, this does not
involve substantial new code or dependencies so much as a reorganization of existing
code. Basically, I'm looking to start over with the CVS, since the directory structure
is now quite different from the original.

I wrote a paper for presentation at the 2003 International Space Development
Conference in San Jose, which is included in (gv-compatible) PDF at
http://www.anansispaceworks.com/papers_html

which describes the current design changes.

Other Software Required:
Python 2.1+

Zope 2.5.1+

VarImage 2.3+ (a Zope Product I maintain)

Various python libraries: stripogram, pystemmer, python imaging library

I expect to have components dependent on pythoncad, pyogg, pyvorbis, and several
other components. Maybe even Blender at some point. By its nature, Narya will tend to
accumulate a lot of dependencies, since it is basically a highly-pluggable framework.

Regarding Java 2 and the clientside, I've written a description of some of the
options at http://www.narya.net/client_html . We have a bit of a problem in finding
adequate clientside tools to integrate that don't require Swing or other Java 2
features, and I feel I will need help from other people interested in an effective
free clientside for more advanced Narya features. But this is certainly an important
goal for us.

Other Comments:
An older version of this project is in the Source Forge CVS for the spacelift
project, but there have been substantial changes, and the project has grown to the
point where it really needs to have its own site. Essentially this is a point where we
need a new start on the CVS, anyway. Eventually, of course, Narya will be able to
host its own project site, but it is not that stable yet (by a long shot!).
