* Name: *List Manipulation 1.0*
* System Name:  *jlistmanip*
* Type: non-GNU software & documentation
* License: Modified BSD License

 Description:
The List Manipulation (Java) Component provides in-memory sorting and
filtering of data sets as well as optimized storage of and access to
frequently used sorts. Data sets are defined as any group of inter-related
data. The process of sorting and filtering data is typically reserved for a
database. Providing an in-memory alternative will reduce database
dependencies and enhance performance by reducing the overhead involved in
requesting, manipulating and retrieving data.

Functionality

- Initialized with data set (Enumeration, Array, Vector, etc).
- Enable sorting of the data set by one or more data element(s). For example,
Sort by Last Name, then by First Name.
- Enable filtering of the data set by user specified criteria.
- Enables a user to remove filter criteria.
- Provides optimized storage of and access to frequently used sorts.

 Other Software Required:
Java 1.4.2+ JRE
JUnit 3.8.1+ (for the test code)

 Other Comments:
I do have working code, working test code (Junit based), fully documented
with JavaDoc and design (use case diagrams, class diagrams, and sequence
diagrams), however it is not hosted anywhere such that I can give you a URL.

Hello Chris,

Firstly I would like to let you know that we are sorry for the huge delay you
have been facing. Do you still want your project hosted at Savannah?

If so, you must determine whether your project can run on a Free Software
Java suite (see http://www.gnu.org/software/java/ for more information).

We recommend you to test your project using GCJ and GNU Classpath, and ensure
that your Java code runs on this Free Software Java suite.

GCJ is the GNU Compiler for Java, part of the GCC (GNU Compiler Collection).
The Classpath project aims to develop a free and portable implementation of
the Java API (the classes in the 'java' package).

More information is available at http://gcc.gnu.org/ and
http://www.gnu.org/software/classpath/ .

Please provide us with more information about this point.

Regards,

Stephan

2007-05-27 Thread Chris Adamson

Follow-up Comment #2, task #6799 (project administration):

The code will work under the FSF java suite. The test platforms were Linux
(Red-Hat) and Windows XP. It doesn't use extensions or special libraries.
The test source code requires JUnit 3.8.1+ which is also open source. This
open-source project and many others I am working on will use this component
as a dependency.

Only one question, is it possible to FTP files over to the host site? I ask
this because I work on both Linux and Windows platforms, and its more
convenient for me to transfer files from Windows.

thanks,

Chris

2007-05-30 Thread Stephan Peijnik

Follow-up Comment #3, task #6799 (project administration):

Hi Chris,

Firstly, "Linux" is just a kernel of a more complex system that we like to
refer to as GNU/Linux, to emphasize the ideals of the Free Software
movement.

Would you mind changing references to Linux as an OS to GNU/Linux?

For more information, see http://www.gnu.org/gnu/linux-and-gnu.html.

Also, note that Savannah supports projects of the Free Software movement, not
projects of the Open Source movement.

We are careful about ethical issues and insist on producing software that is
not dependent on proprietary software.

While Open Source as defined by its founders means something pretty close to
Free Software, it's frequently misunderstood. For more information, please
see http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-software-for-freedom.html.

Additionally, there is no FSF Java suite by the way. Are you sure your
installation of Red-Hat GNU/Linux is running GCJ and GNU Classpath and not a
GNU/Linux version of Sun's Java suite? Please provide me with more
information about this point.

Last but not least, we do not provide FTP access to Savannah. You can access
our hosting services via scp/sftp and the CVS server via CVS + SSH.

Regards,

Stephan

Follow-up Comment #4:

Hi Chris,

I am waiting for an answer from you.

If within one week I still do not get a reply, I will remove your project.
You will still be able to register it again once you have the time to deal
with the registration issues.

Are you still willing to host your project at Savannah? If not, please tell
us - we don't bite, and it will make us gain time.

Regards,

Stephan

Hi Chris,

We did not get a response from you, so we deleted your project from the
pending queue.

If you would still like to have your project hosted at Savannah, please
register it again.

The re-registration URL found in our acknowledgment of your earlier
registration will direct you to the proper location where you can re-register
your project.

Stephan
