Repo for updateso to an old SL
Hi all, I'm stil using SL 6.2 (waiting for the fog about future SL, CentOS ... to dissolve). I'm in need to update firefox. A version for RHEL6 systems exists (firefox-91.4.1esr) but yum finds no repo for that package. Some help? Thx -- Elio Fabri
Recovering root password
Hi all, I need help (at lest a link) as to how to recover my root password. I'm using SL6.2. The password I remember by heart is no longer accepted, neither for the su command nor for sudo. Thx -- Elio Fabri

Thenk you both. Your suggestions helped me to solve the issue. First, reading the link by Nico (and before him by Ron Tapia privately) recalled me what passwd command does. Then jdow's post prompted use of sudo. Actually I had already tried it and it worked. It was not obvious, haowever, since sudo's allowed actions depend on the security policy and I didn't remember anything about that. Once read 'man sudo' I checked sudoers file and found I had configured %elioALL=(ALL)NOPASSWD: ALL (elio is my account's name). All that I had forgotten, of course :) Bye -- Elio Fabri

Hi all, I had a bad surprise: the root password I know is no longer accepted. Neither bu su, nor by yum. I've been using Linux for many years (now SL 6.2) and it never happened before, so I'm stuck. What can I do? -- Elio Fabri

Thank you Mark. I opted for USB install of the Everything iso. Downloaded the 8.4 GB file to a fresh partition. Copied with dd to a 16 GB pen. Up to here, all looks fine. But when I attempt to boot from USB, I get the message > No DEFAULT or UI configuration directive found! > boot: and I don't know what to answer... Unfortunately, my last install was several years ago (SL 6.2) and I have forgotten almost everything :-( -- Elio Fabri
How to download SL 7.4
Hi all, I want to switch from SL 6.2 to SL 7.4 (fresh install, not upgrade). In http://ftp.scientificlinux.org/linux/scientific/7x/x86_64/iso/ I see several iso files, but cannot understand which one fits my needs. I would like to keep a bootable DVD (not dual layer) copy and a live disk. Which are the right files to download? Thanks -- Elio Fabri
