Traffic reporting tool suggestions are needed

2013-05-20 Thread Andrew Z
Gents,
I'm looking for a traffic reporting solution with the following basic
requirements:
It should provide the link between data been sent/received and the process
or application generated/consumed that data
Should save information gathered into txt/XML files
Should be low on resources and run in daemon mode ( for data accumulation)
and interactive modes

Thank you.

The only one tool I know of that links the exact data communication
(IP, port etc.) to processes in real time is nethogs. But it can't
collect the info into logs as I see. I assume it doesn't eat much
resources. It's useful to determine the processes that use the most
network traffic.

Andras,
thank you for the input. It's an interesting tool indeed.
unfortunately i can't seem to understand why ssh session with forwarded
ports is not displayed in this app. and as of right now i'm transferring a
hundred MB files thru that connection... odd

correction:
actually that session with forwarded ports is up in the tool.
I guess i jumped to incorrect conclusions .

now if i can get stats out of this tool that would be precisely what is
needed.
