I would say a bug in tcmalloc, not SL or RHEL. See for instance

The fix is to move to google perftools 1.7

Because of a problem with not running the current BIND release a
couple of weeks ago, I would like to ask:

a) is RedHat likely to choose to backport the fix to 1.6 or will it
adopt 1.7 or leave as is until 5.7 or later?

google-perftools comes from epel, not rhel. What the epel
google-perftools maintainer will do is not easy to judge. I don't know
how to interpret https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=675376.

But since this is epel and not rhel, I see no relation to the 5.7
release. I would expect that epel maintainers react to this
incompatibility between google-perftools and the current rhel release.

But then again i have not found an epel bugzilla entry that explicitly
mentions the problem.

b) will Centos and/or SL follow RH exactly or will their approaches differ?

IOW, how far does the binary compatiblity policy extend?

SL 5.5 - Serverboard S5000XSL - Intel Embedded Server RAID Technology II

2011-02-10 Thread Eduardo Almeida Costa
Hi. =)

I'm trying to install the SL 5.5, against the Serverboard Intel
S500XSLhttp://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/server/s5000xsland
its on-board IntelĀ® Embedded Server RAID Technology II RAID (IntelĀ®
ESRT-2 SATA SAS Software RAID). I'm fighting five days in this battle =).
I have two servers with this hardware configuration.

I followed the instructions in the Intel's Support:

   -

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/18570/eng/ESRT2_Linux_v.14.00.1203.2010.ziplang=engDwnldid=18570

http://downloadmirror.intel.com/18570/eng/ESRT2_RHEL4-5-6_SLES10-11_v.14.00.1203.2010_Readme.txt

But i didn't have success.

I tried the RHEL 5.3, to test the driver files. The installation occurred
with no probs, I used the boot kernel parameters: linux dd and the megasr
driver files (megasr-14.00.1203.2010-1-rhel50-u3-all.img). The RHEL 5.3
recognized the raid controller.
I tried all images (and drive files) against the SL 5.5, but all failed.

What can I do? Any ideas?

By default selinux doesn't let nfs work (an intentional decision from
the upstream vendor: they figure if you're savvy enough to set up nfs,
you can tweak selinux to allow it).

However, it's easy to change the policy to allow. Here's a blog post I
googled up while trying to remember the commands involved:
