/BIG CREEK, W.Va./ September 12, 2007, 11:23 p.m. ET · Authorities
decided Wednesday not to pursue hate crime charges in the kidnapping and
weeklong torture of a black woman, instead going after the suspects, who
are white, on state charges that carry stiffer penalties.

While federal civil rights or state hate crime charges remain an option,
a state kidnapping count that carries a sentence of up to life in prison
will provide the best chance for successful prosecution, officials said.

"As a practical matter, sentenced to life, what else can be done?" U.S.
Attorney Charles T. Miller told The Associated Press.

Six people face charges, including kidnapping, sexual assault and lying
to police in the torture of Megan Williams, 20, at a remote hillside
home in Big Creek.

State hate crime charges, which carry a sentence of 10 years, could come
later, prosecutor Brian Abraham said. State sexual assault charges carry
a penalty up to 35 years in prison.

The woman's captors forced her to eat rat droppings, choked her with a
cable cord and stabbed her in the leg while calling her a racial slur,
according to criminal complaints. They also poured hot water over her,
made her drink from a toilet, and beat and sexually assaulted her during
a span of about a week, the documents say.

Williams was not a random target, prosecutor Brian Abraham said
Wednesday. She had a "social relationship" with one of the suspects, he
said.

The Associated Press generally does not identify suspected victims of
sexual assault, but Williams and her mother, Carmen Williams, agreed to
release her name. Carmen Williams said she wanted people to know what
her daughter had endured.

At one point, a suspect cut the woman's ankle with a knife and used the
N-word in telling her she was victimized because she is black, according
to the complaints.

It wasn't until an anonymous tip led Logan County sheriff's deputies to
the property on Saturday that her ordeal ended, authorities said. She
limped toward the deputies, her arms outstretched as she cried, "Help
me," officials said.

Williams remained hospitalized Wednesday in Charleston. The hospital
declined to release any information about her condition.

The victim had a previous relationship with Bobby Brewster, one of the
six in custody, Abraham said. He was charged in July with domestic
battery and assault after a domestic dispute involving the same woman.

"She obviously had some sort of social relationship," Abraham said.
"That is based on the fact that she was present at his residence on a
prior date."

The suspects have arrest records going back several years, according to
records from Logan County Magistrate Court, and Abraham said was he
familiar with all of them.

"Most of the charges are minor things," Abraham said. "Basically on
weekends they get in trouble and by the middle of the week they make up
with each other."

Since 1991, police have filed 108 criminal charges against the six.

Brewster's mother, Frankie Brewster, 49, faced the most serious charges
among them. She was charged in 1994 with first-degree murder but pleaded
guilty to manslaughter and wanton endangerment. She was released from
prison in 2000 after serving five years in the death of an 84-year-old
woman, court records show.

In Williams' case, Frankie Brewster is charged with kidnapping, sexual
assault, malicious wounding and giving false information during a felony
investigation.

Bobby Brewster, 24, also of Big Creek, is charged with kidnapping,
sexual assault, malicious wounding and assault during the commission of
a felony.

In March, Brewster was accused in criminal complaints of attacking his
mother with a machete at her home, according to court records. The
outcome of those charges — domestic assault, brandishing a deadly weapon
and obstructing an officer — was not immediately clear.

Danny J. Combs, 20, of Harts, is charged with sexual assault and
malicious wounding. Karen Burton, 46, of Chapmanville, was charged with
malicious wounding, battery and assault during the commission of a felony.

Burton's daughter, Alisha Burton, 23, and George A. Messer, 27, both of
Chapmanville, are charged with assault during the commission of a felony
and battery. She previously faced charges of assault during the
commission of a felony and battery; in May, she was accused of striking
Messer with a shovel and smashing the window of a woman's car. The
charges are pending.

All six remained in custody Wednesday in lieu of $100,000 cash bail
each. Bobby Brewster is scheduled to appear before a Logan County
Circuit Court judge on Monday to be arraigned on the kidnapping charge,
according to court records. A date for his mother's appearance on the
kidnapping charge has not yet been set.

Ostern

Main article: Ostern http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ostern

Westerns from the United States were popular in Communist countries, and were a
particular favorite of Joseph Stalin. An entire genre of "Red Western" or
"Ostern" films developed in Eastern Europe. These films usually portrayed the
American Indians sympathetically, as oppressed people fighting for their
rights, in contrast to American westerns of the time, which frequently
portrayed the Indians as villains. They frequently featured Yugoslavians or
Turkic people in the role of the Indians, due to the shortage of authentic
Indians in Eastern Europe.

Gojko Mitiæ is famous for his portrayals of righteous, kindhearted and charming
Indian chiefs ("Die Söhne der großen Bärin" directed by Josef Mach). He became
honorary chief of the tribe of Sioux when he visited the United States of
America in the 90s and the television crew accompanying him showed the tribe
one his movies. American actor and singer Dean Reed, an expatriate who lived in
East Germany, also starred in several films.

Hate crime indeed. If you look at those people, several look a little--off, to
be kind. I know mugshots dont' usually catch your best side, but daaamn!
Remind me of the family members from the original "Texas Chainsaw Massacre".
I can easily see one of the boys yelling "Hit her again, Ma!"

If there's anything approaching good coming out of this, is that this young
lady's plight brought these cockroaches to light. If not, I fear before too
long we'd have been reading about bodies of victims being buried on their
property--assuming that hasn't already happened with some other hapless woman...

6 arrested, charged in woman's weeklong torture
Authorities believe racism played role in ordeal

Carmen Williams doesn’t understand why her 20-year-old daughter was tortured,
raped and tied up in a shed.
Police tell her that what happened was probably a hate crime, that it happened
because Megan Williams is black.
“Every time they stabbed her, they called her ‘nigger,’” her mother said.
But whatever the reason, Carmen Williams wants people to know what happened to
her daughter. She agreed to talk to a reporter from her daughter’s room at
Charleston Area Medical Center General Hospital.
She said a man and a woman — who Megan Williams thought were her friends — took
her to the house of Frankie Lee Brewster in Pecks Mill, Logan County.
Megan Williams was held in the house for about a week, police said.
According to criminal complaints filed against six people in this case, she was
beaten, stabbed, choked, sexually assaulted and threatened with death.
The details are even more horrible. According to the complaints, she was forced
to eat dog and rat feces and to lick up blood. She was made to lick parts of
Brewster’s body, under the threat of death. Her hair was pulled out. She was
made to drink from the toilet. She was sexually assaulted while hot water was
poured on her body, and while a man held a knife to her.
A woman allegedly cut Megan Williams’ ankle and said, “That’s what we do to
niggers around here.”
Six people had been charged Monday evening, including Brewster, the 49-year-old
woman who owns the home where the alleged assault happened. She is charged with
sexual assault, kidnapping, malicious wounding and giving false statements to
an officer.
Bobby R. Brewster, Frankie Brewster’s 24-year-old son, is charged with
kidnapping, sexual assault, malicious wounding and assault during the
commission of a felony.
Danny J. Combs, 20, is charged with sexual assault and malicious wounding.
George A. Messer, 27, is charged with assault during the commission of a felony
and battery.
Karen Burton, 46, is charged with malicious wounding, battery and assault
during the commission of a felony. Her daughter, Alisha Burton, 23, is charged
with assault during the commission of a felony and battery.

Each was being held Monday at Southwestern Regional Jail on $100,000 bail.
Carmen Williams said the two people who took her daughter to the Pecks Mill
house did it so she could be tortured. Police are looking for those people,
Logan County Chief Deputy V.K. Dingess said Monday evening.
“Apparently once they got her there they planned to do this,” Dingess said.
Carmen Williams said she has barely left her daughter’s side since police found
her Saturday.
“She wakes up in the middle of the night screaming, ‘Mommy,’” she said. “What’s
really bad is that we don’t know everything they did to her. She is crying all
the time.”
She said her daughter has been a little better since she learned that the
people who hurt her have been arrested.
The FBI has been called in to investigate the incident as a hate crime, Dingess
said. All six of the people charged so far are white.
Megan Williams was found Saturday at Brewster’s house. Police, acting on a tip,
went to the residence to check on a female who was reportedly being held
against her will, according to the criminal complaint filed in Logan County
Magistrate Court.
“Frankie was sitting on her front porch with her door open. We asked Frankie
who else was at the residence and she stated no one else was here, that she was
alone,” according to the complaint. “As she was talking, she got up and stepped
toward her door when a female inside the residence limped toward the door with
her arms out, saying, ‘help me.’ ”
The woman, Megan Williams, had four stab wounds in her left leg. Her eyes are
bruised.
Brewster told police that she didn’t know how that had happened to Williams.
She told police she had been away with friends, and that Williams came to her
house on Saturday already in that condition.
Megan Williams was taken first to Logan Regional Hospital and then to CAMC
General, where she underwent surgery for her leg wounds, Dingess said.
“We have all been praying and asking the Lord to take us through this,” Carmen

"Flash Gordon" sucks beyond belief. It's actually much *worse* than "Painkiller

Gordon is just plain crap. The whole jumping from Earth to Mongo and back makes
for bad stories. I wish they'd just stay on Mongo. The acting's bad, the sets
and scenery--with little of them there are--are cheap. Mongo itself looks like
they spent about a hundred bucks on the sets. I'm not getting why a middle-aged
emotionless white guy is playing Ming the Merciless.Ming's assassin speaks in
those crappy one-syllable cliched speeches that crappy scifi uses for The
Alien. The only thing in the entire series that made me even halfway chuckle is
Ming's assistant, who floats around on that flying platform.

That "Dresden Files" has been cancelled without getting a fair chance is a real
crime.

Re: [scifinoir2] Re: My Take - "3:10 to Yuma"

2007-09-12 Thread KeithBJohnson
You're quite welcome. I thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, I'd enjoy seeing it
again. The best Western since "Unforgiven"? It might be, if only because there
have been so few released at the American theatre since then. "Open Range" is
very good, but it's much more slowly paced and nuanced.

I'm trying to think of Westerns released here since "Unforgiven" in '92. There
was Tombstone (good moments but not the greatest overall), "Posse" (ditto,
though give Van Peebles credit for bringing Blacks to the Western), Gang of
Roses (horrible, horrible Western with Stacey Dash, Bobby Brown, Li'l Kim--need
I say more?), Wild Wild West (disjointed remake with Will Smith, not worth the
time). Then there are films taking place in modern times with Western-like
themes or settings like "Extreme Prejudice" (Nick Nolte film, pretty good),
"Lone Star" (from master John Sayles), and Robert Rodriguez's movies with
Antonio Banderas.

Hmmm...looking at the list, it's possible Yuma might be the best Western
released in American theatre since "Unforgiven", but the competition is very
spare...Of course I'm omitting TV films/miniseries/series like "Lonesome Dove",
which had a second miniseries and a full series released after "Unforgiven".

Thanks for the plot summary. The plot sounds like the reverse of
_High Noon_ (1952 with Gary Cooper in the lead)... getting the bad
guy to the train instead of the bad guy getting off the train.

Is this film truly the best western since Eastwood's _Unforgiven_?

> My Quick Take: This is a fun, exciting movie in the tradition of
old Westerns. There are bad guys, good (or not-so-bad) guys, and lots
of action. Plenty of chases and gunfights, even a few explosions.
Russell Crowe as always is a captivating presence, dominating the
screen and the scene. Christian Bale--almost a chameleon of an actor--
gets into his role as the desperate rancher. Good supporting cast,
great cinematography and camera work, pulse-pounding music. Did I
mention the gunfights? And the horse chases? Really enjoyed this
pic.
>
> My Full Take: At its core, the Western is a morality tale, the
story of a basically good man struggling against sinister forces
while remaining true to what's right. What those forces are—evil land
barons, gunfighters, Mother Nature—is less important than the
struggle the hero undertakes to overcome them. When others abandon
him—even when he doubts himself—the hero stands alone, fighting to
the end.

hold his family together, battling drought, his younger son's
tuberculosis, a land owner to whom he's heavily in debt, and his own
physical limitations (having lost part of a leg in the Civil War).
Dan can't even muster the energy to rebuke his oldest son's
increasingly critical and disrespectful remarks, because they echo
his own self-doubts. Dan feels his wife slowly slipping away from
him, which only feeds his own growing desperation. Things get worse
when the land owner's men burn down his barn and drive his cattle
away as a warning to pay up or get out.
>
> As Dan and his boys later go to fetch the herd, they see in the
distance a heist in progress. The infamous Ben Wade (Russell Crowe)
and his gang are attacking a stagecoach. A real menace, Wade has
committed over twenty heists, costing hundreds of thousands of
dollars and the lives of dozens of men. In short order, Wade's gang
has killed everyone and stolen the money. The sequence is thrilling,
full of hyperkinetic energy as pursuers and the pursued engage in a
desperate chase, horses galloping like mad, grizzled, hard-looking
men cursing and yelling as they release a barrage of bullets. The
whole scene is shot with frenetic close ups and gorgeous long pans,
and driven by a musical score that heightens the action. Who needs a
car chase?
>
> Later, when Wade is captured, Dan agrees to accompany the party
taking Wade to catch the 3:10 train to Yuma prison—a desperate move
motivated by the money he'll receive for the job. The journey is
rife with danger: Indians, other men hungry for vengeance on Wade,
Wade's own pursuing gang, and worst of all, Wade himself.
>
> Crowe's Ben Wade is the kind of smooth villain who does pencil
drawings during a holdup, uses his wits as much as his gun, reads the
Bible, and treats women with charm and respect. He doesn't kill for
sport: Wade spares Dan after the holdup even though his men want to
kill him (a decision he later comes to regret). But this is not a bad

HIGHLANDER: The Source. Brett Leonard is the director with Adrian Paul playing

Bello Takes Over In Mummy 3

Maria Bello, who co-stars in the upcoming sequel film The Mummy: Tomb of the
Dragon Emperor, told SCI FI Wire that she plays a kick-ass version of the
character originated by Rachel Weisz.

Bello, who won wide acclaim for 2005's A History of Violence, spoke at the
Toronto International Film Festival and added that she dyed her normally blond
hair auburn for the sequel. "Yeah, it's for a film role. It's for Mummy 3, and
I love it," she said.

Bello, who took time off from filming in Montreal to appear at the film
festival to promote The Jane Austen Book Club, takes over the role of Evelyn
Carnahan from Weisz, who played the character in the first two Mummy movies but
bowed out of the third.

"She has the same name, but she's a very different character than Rachel
played," Bello said in an interview. "She's a bad-ass action chick. I had to
train a lot. I had to do wushu, a martial-art form, some kickboxing,
swordfighting, rifle training for a couple of months before we even started
shooting." Bello added: "It's the role of my dreams. It is just a blast."

Bello will soon join co-stars Brendan Fraser and Jet Li for two months of
shooting in China.

Bello said that after a few weeks of rehearsal, she sustained a black eye after
getting butted by a Winchester rifle, but added that she's fine now. "I'm
looking forward to the doll, too, though," she said cryptically. The Mummy:
Tomb of the Dragon Emperor opens Aug. 1, 2008.

Intrigued by Bionic Woman (could be good if written well), Pushing Daisies
(though the "Ghost Whisperer"/"Medium" angle's getting tired), Reaper (lots of
potential for good standalone stories, but fear it could devolve into dreck),
and Journeyman (hope they don't screw up by Americanizing the Brit original's

ripoff, or have some potential.

Not so excited about "Moonlight" (tired of the suave, handsome, tortured

sure will end up being boring and derivative)

FOREST WHITAKER TO DO 'MAMBO'

September

Forest Whitaker has landed a role opposite Jude Law and Brazilian actress
Alice Braga in the futuristic thriller "Repossession Mambo." Based on the
novel by Eric Garcia, the film is set in the near future when artificial
organs can be bought on credit with one catch - if the buyer defaults on
payment, it will result in a fatal repossession. Law's character - himself
"made up of artificial organs' - is a repo man who reclaims organs when
their recipients cannot make the payments. When he struggles to pay off
his new heart, he becomes one of the people he used to hunt down and must
go on the run with Braga's character, who is also down on her luck. The
Universal Pictures project is slated to begin Oct. 15 in Toronto.

[scifinoir2] 'Smellovision' Attempting a Comeback

'Smellovision' Attempting a Comeback

Monday September 10, 2007

By ERIN CONROY

Associated Press Writer

BOSTON (AP) - Megan Dickerson always loved the rich colors and melodic
scores of the film "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory." But she also
longed to experience the sweet scents of chocolate and schnozberries.

A self-proclaimed multisensory artist, Dickerson is now trying to revive
"Smellovision."

She's staged outdoor showings of "Willy Wonka" for hundreds of people and
used oscillating fans and artificially scented oils to distribute aromas
of blueberry pie and banana taffy during the film. With help from local
art houses and the Boston Children's Museum, she plans to bring other
films for sniffing to theaters this fall.

"There's been a crazy response to the movement," Dickerson said. "I guess
there just aren't enough opportunities for wonder out there, but there's
something nostalgic about this art action that makes you feel like a kid
again."

Smellovision never quite caught on, though it dates back to the late
1950s, when a signal from a "smell track" on the film activated a tubing
system to transmit odors to each seat. Aroma-Rama, a similar application,
piped odors into the theater through the ventilator system.

In the 1980s, Odorama made a stale debut with scratch-and-sniff cards,
which also briefly made their way into living rooms. Outside of theme
parks, scent-themed flicks weren't visited again until last year, when two
movie theaters in Japan offered aroma wafts for back-row seats during the
Hollywood adventure film "The New World."

Dickerson isn't the only one trying to bring the concept back. In March,
Trisenx Holdings Inc. started a Web site (http://scenttv.tv/) where, for
$17.95 a month, users can sniff out "scent-enabled content" that includes
movies, music videos and news.

Equipment for Dickerson's Smellovision projects is donated by the Coolidge
Corner Theater and the Brattle Theater, both independent Boston area
art-house cinemas where she plans to show movies this fall.

Dickerson, a manager of community programs for the Boston Children's
Museum, said she's always been fascinated with the psychology associated
with smell, and started to experiment with fragrances through a program
with the Sense of Smell Institute at the museum.

She was especially struck by the idea of "scent memories."

"This will inevitably give us a sense of comfort and draw us back to a
playful place, and give us flashbacks of things we may have forgotten
about," she said, noting that a strawberry-lemon bottled scent in her
collection triggers memories of her older brother's hair gel.

Besides the sweet smells of fruit and cotton candy, Dickerson's boxes of
bottled scents ordered through the Fragrance Foundation include dirt,
condensed milk, fizzy lemonade, grass and sushi.

She sometimes mixes fragrances together for a certain stink, and if that
doesn't work, she has another trick.

"Sometimes, if you just tell someone that a smell is something it's not,
they will automatically perceive it to be that scent," she said. "It's all
psychological."

Dickerson hopes to organize a Smellovision film festival, and plans to
work with movies like 1960's film "Scent of Mystery" and John Waters'
"Polyester" (1981) - movies that "make no sense without the smells," she
said.

Indoor Smellovision can pose problems with separating smells over the
course of the show, according to Terry Molnar, executive director of the
Sense of Smell Institute.

"The problem is that the scents are layered on top of one another, and
people get sick from all of the smells mixed together," Molnar said. "I'm
sure there's better technology out there now that could refresh the air in
a theater, or could evacuate the air in the room before the next comes in."

Dickerson said she may hand out small, squeezable "scent bottles" so that
individuals can experience the fumes from their seats.

Robert Thompson, director of the Bleier Center for Television and Popular
Culture at Syracuse University, said Smellovision will always attract
curiosity, but the payoff to adding scent to movies is not as great as it
was for sound or color.

He said it's doubtful Smellovision would ever survive outside of IMAX
theaters and Disney World.

"I think it's forever going to be a novelty," Thompson said. "There are
not terribly many occasions where we're watching a movie or television
show and thinking the technology is so inferior because it doesn't bring
us smell. It's just not necessary, and there aren't very many movies that
would make us even care about smell."

2007-09-12 Thread Daryle
>From what I understand about "Bionic Woman", the choice of a younger actress
is integral to the basic story. It's not just a remake, but an update.

It's important to note that the most successful franchise on TV is Law &
Order, and generally, they like their women to be GROWN.

As for the other shows, I think the teen fixation (and let's be honest,
it's really a teen FEMALE fixation, which, at this point, is just creepy.)
is about over. It's clear to me that there have been some very old men in
decision making positions, who were pulling a Patrick Stewart ( see that
Extras episode) and just wanted to see young girls around. There's no other
explanation for it. The casting of Lois Lane in "Returns" was just silly.
Katie Holmes is now Mrs. Katherine Cruise, Hollywood wife, bad actress, and
mother. Whoever that girl is in "Transformers" is as much in high school as
*I* am. Even the kids on Disney Channel and Nick are growing up. I think
we've seen the end of an era.

When one is truly incompetent and knows it, sometimes the only

[scifinoir2] Re: My Take - "3:10 to Yuma"

2007-09-12 Thread g123curious

>
>

>

Bible, and treats women with charm and respect. He doesn't kill for
sport: Wade spares Dan after the holdup even though his men want to
kill him (a decision he later comes to regret). But this is not a bad
guy with a good heart. He remains a cold-blooded killer, or as he
says, "I'm rotten to the core".
>
> It's Wade's dual nature that Dan must battle, as he fights to
remember why he's risking all to turn in someone who's actually done
him no personal harm. "Why don't you take the money and go home to
your pretty wife?" Wade asks Dan. "What are you trying to prove?"
>

are almost as bad as Wade himself. But Dan is driven by his need for
money and security. And, increasingly, the need to save the soul of
his oldest son William, who starts to admire Wade as a kind of hero,
strong where his father is weak. Crazed by his need to do
something "good for once", Dan pushes on past the point of reason.

are plenty of chases, fights, gun battles, explosions—enough for even
modern tastes. The actors are good across the board. Russell Crowe is
great as Wade, at times charming, at times chilling, always
commanding. Christian Bale inhabits the role of the thin, bedraggled

I'd add that she not be too young. I'm starting to tire of this fascination
with very young and young-looking women. "Buffy" was cool, but now there seems
to be a real push for the young, vulnerable, barely out of her teen years
woman. Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane is a prime example. She looks and acts like
such a little girl I was completely turned off by the character. The original
actress who played Diana in "V" was 30 when the series aired. They need to get
someone that old. Frankly, I dont' care what Hollywood thinks: "older" women
work better in some roles, the same way men do. Frankly, a Diana who's well
into her 40s would make more sense as the leader of an entire invasion force
than some squeaky voiced girl barely into her 20s.

By the way, although the age difference isn't as bad, I have somewhat the same
problem with "The Bionic Woman". Lindsay Wagner was 27 when the original series
aired. The new star is just 23...

All I ask is that they not make Diana blonde, and they can count on me for

Unfortunately, true. He reminds me of the Thin Blue Line with the police. I
always am amazed at how some cops feel that other cops need to back them up
when they do wrong. I get the whole idea of trust, being able to put your life
in your partner's hands if need be. But sometimes cops forget that their
primary goal is to serve the *people*, and that a cop who's violated our trust
isn't worthy of protection. Same with Bush. He and his gang are our servants,
not the other way around, and he should be surrounded by people who remind him
to do what's right by us, not by his narrow definition of right and wrong.

awesome. I can almost tolerate Gwyneth Paltrow in it, just because Robert
Downey, Jr. is perfect. "The Dark Knight" had better bring it, or Marvel
wins yet again. This is so far the only one of these comic movies I would

This story contains possible MODERATE SPOILERS for the upcoming fourth
season of "Battlestar Galactica."

There seems to be a lot of couples in SciFi Channel's now Emmy-winning
"Battlestar Galactica," whether it be Saul Tigh and Ellen, Lee and
Dualla, maybe even Will Adama and Laura. It's almost a shipper's paradise.

As expected, however, few relationships found in drama last long, and
"Battlestar Galactica" is no different. However, one breakup coming up
in the fourth season is one that probably no one had seen coming.

"Say good-bye to the Six in Baltar's head," a source told SyFy Portal's
Michael Hinman. "As much as we like Baltar having this controlling
figure literally in his head, we couldn't keep it up forever."

James Callis' character of Baltar has been visited by a mental version
of Tricia Helfer's Six since the 2003 miniseries. And the third season
episode "Downloaded" showed that he isn't the only one. The resurrected
Caprica Six has a mental visitor of her own -- Gaius Baltar. Which, of
course, has prompted a lot of questions from fans.

But Baltar won't be alone for long.

"We all know that [Baltar] can't follow the 'plan' by himself, so he
will get another visitor," the source said. "He'll be paid a visit by
his own likeness that had been helping [Caprica] Six. It should really
make things interesting in the last season as everyone tries to figure
out who the final Cylon is."

Who are these personas? The source won't say, but there has been a lot
of speculation that they are all tied into the Leoben (Callum Keith
Rennie) that Kara Thrace (Katee Sackhoff) saw in her "death" episode,
"Maelstrom."

Of course, none of this has been confirmed by SciFi Channel or anyone
else -- and is subject to change before the actual episodes air, so
treat it was you would any rumor.

"Battlestar Galactica" returns in November with the telemovie "Razor,"
and then will begin its fourth and final season in early 2008.

Things are looking good for those setting up residence in the little
town of "Eureka."

Sources close to SciFi Channel say the show -- as expected -- is looking
at an almost definite third season following strong viewership numbers
in the first part of the show's second season which included some larger
sets and new faces.

The second season premiere last summer drew in 2.5 million viewers, down
from the near 4 million who tuned in for the pilot -- but that was the
largest audience to ever tune in for an original series episode on SciFi
Channel at the time, so they probably get a little leeway.

"Eureka" has received strong popular reaction, almost to the point that
some have speculated the show could move to sister network USA, but
sources tell SciFi Portal that there's no chance that will happen.

Sadly, the same can't be said about "Flash Gordon." While its premiere
did bring in some viewers, successive episodes have not. It's 1.5
household rating premiere, which equates to about 1.7 million viewers,
was the network's strongest series debut so far this year. But the other
shows "Flash Gordon" beat out only lasted a single season and have
already been canceled, like "The Dresden Files" and "Painkiller Jane."
Plus, the rebroadcast of "Doctor Who" has been generating higher ratings
than "Flash Gordon," highlighting the profit margin loss even for the
network even more.

Of course, none of this has been confirmed by SciFi Channel or NBC
Universal, so treat this as any rumor should be treated.
