[scifinoir2] Jackson won't helm 'The Hobbit'

2007-12-20 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
As Hollywood Insider reported earlier today, Peter Jackson will
executive produce The Hobbit and a sequel, both set to go into
pre-production as soon as possible. But although MGM president Harry
Sloan told Hollywood Insider there was a chance Jackson himself might
end up directing the films, Jackson’s manager Ken Kamins tells HI that
was not possible:

“Peter won’t be directing the films because he felt the fans have waited
long enough for The Hobbit, Kamis said. It will take the better part
of every day of the next four years to write, direct, and produce the
two Hobbit films. Given his current obligations to both The Lovely Bones
and Tintin, waiting for Peter, Fran [Walsh, Jackson's life/creative
partner), and Philippa [Boyens, co-writer/co-producer] to write, direct,
and produce The Hobbit would require the fans wait even longer. By
serving as executive producers and having approval over all creative
elements of both films, Peter can ensure that the films will be made
with the same intimacy and care as if they were writing and directing
themselves.”

Despite rumors that Sam Raimi, Alfonso Cuarón, or Guillermo del Toro
will be taking over directing duties, sources say that no decisions have
been made on that subject, nor has a writer been chosen.

According to New Line co-chief Bob Shaye, the studio plans to meet with
Jackson in early 2008 and begin the development process. “All decisions
about writers and directors will be made in conjunction with Peter,”
Shaye told HI. Another source confirmed that Jackson, Walsh, and Boyens
will have director, writer, and cast approval.

It will take some time before anyone begins penning a script for The
Hobbit because of the ongoing writers’ strike and Jackson's schedule --
the director is in Pennsylvania shooting The Lovely Bones until
February. But surely Jackson is planning a big ole bender back in New
Zealand, right? “Honestly, I haven’t talked to Peter!” said Kamins,
laughing. “He just got home from Pennsylvania last night!”

how long before his rep has grown enough to do that?

From: Astromancer [EMAIL PROTECTED]
I think Smith has done his research and knows what we know about the market. He
is a smart man, so he is going to put his money into what sells...maybe later,
if he has such a mind to do so, he'll do the films you talk about...By then,
his reputation alone will pull the audience he need for success...The Happyness
film is a quasi-example of that...

Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I decide to read what I missed before on Smith's Profile on Internet
Movie Database and I saw that the man has really stepped up his activity
as a producer in recent years. In addition to Hancock, he has eight
flicks in various stages of production. With just a cursory glance,
none look like they are Black or Black love, but some look interesting.
Just some food for thought.. All of your points are valid, but there is
one thing I do not get the impression that you have considered. Black
on Black love in film does not even a high profile topic within the
Black community or among Blacks in the entertainment industry. I guess
I'm saying that for years people have been saying that there are no
positive Black stories in Hollywood and a few people took some risks and
we are starting to see these stories. We had to hear it or a long time
before there was noticeable movement in that area. With two biopics, I
would include Smith among those people who is seeking to address that
issue. I also wonder if most African Americans feel that niche is
being filled with the Black films we see that barely make it to the big
screen.

I do not see the same type of push in Holly weird (even among Blacks)
for that type of story. I could be way off base. Is it true, do Black
in Hollywood not really push for the Black on Black thing? Speaking of
that..it just hit me...with the exception of McMillan adaptations,
Angela Bassett is always paired with a white male. I take that back,
she had a non-existent relationship with the Black guy on Alias. I say
non-existent, because you did not know about it until they were deep
into it. Please note: I was moving out of the country at the time, so
it is possible I missed some episodes that covered when they were
getting together. If that is the case please let me know

Will Smith actually owns his own production company Overbrook
Entertainment. I think he pretty much does whatever he wants to at
 this point.

 This is from the IMDB:

Graduate of Philly's legendary Overbrook High School, whose alumni
include Wilt Chamberlain, Hal Lear, Wali Jones, Walt Hazzard, The
Dovells, The Orlons, DeeDee Sharp, etc. and in tribute to his student
years there, his production company is called Overbrook
 Entertainment.

The company produce the following movies:

Ali, Showtime, I-Robot, Hitch, Saving Face, ATL, and Pursuit of
 Happiness.

Yeah. Shaun was good, but the idea of Killer sheep gives me the
willies (sp) I live some gory movies once I see them, but i'm
usually slow to go out of my way to seem them. While I was Mexico, I
had on demand and there were video stores, but I just did not rent

with a rental que of almost 200, I put off the killer sheep-- besides,

Director Jonathon King cleverly plays on the silliness of the
normally docile, dimwitted lamb as terrifying monster, and his shots

laughter. However, the storyline could perhaps have benefited from a
bit less action, and a bit more plot, as the suspense and jokes begin
to fizzle by the end. The excellent WETA WORKSHOP (known for its work
on the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy) delivers hilariously gory special

explode, culminating in a raucous bloodbath that will likely earn
BLACK SHEEP cult status among the EVIL DEAD crowd.

[scifinoir2] Hellboy II Open To Third Film

2007-12-20 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
Hellboy II Open To Third Film

Guillermo del Toro, who directed and co-wrote the upcoming SF sequel
Hellboy II: The Golden Army, told SCI FI Wire that he and Hellboy
creator Mike Mignola fashioned the follow-up so that it lays the
groundwork for a possible sequel. But if there isn't a third film, the
movie also effectively closes out the story, he added.

The way Mike and I did approach this was, when we were told, 'Think
about something, if you want, for a sequel,' we went away and said,
'Let's talk about it,' del Toro said in an interview. Do we want to
continue the story? We did the first one saying, 'That's it. It's a
self-concluding story.' And I said, 'Let's come up with an arc that
makes sense for us for the second and third movie.'

In the new film, the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense
team--Hellboy (Ron Perlman), Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), Abe Sapien (Doug
Jones) and Johann--jumps to action when the truce is broken between
mankind and the invisible realm of the fantastic. A greedy, merciless
figure (Blade II's Luke Goss) seizes the opportunity to try to take over
the Earth.

We said, 'This is the story. This is how we end in the third movie,'
del Toro said. And then I went in and wrote a self-conclusive
screenplay [for the second movie]. So if there's never a third one, I'm
perfectly at peace. Hellboy II: The Golden Army opens July 11, 2008.

[scifinoir2] Raimi Helming Hell, Then Hobbit

2007-12-20 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
Raimi Helming Hell, Then Hobbit

Spider-Man director Sam Raimi will return to his genre roots to helm
Drag Me to Hell, a supernatural thriller he wrote with his brother, Ivan
Raimi, Variety reported.

After Drag Me to Hell, Raimi is expected to helm the Hobbit films for
New Line and MGM now that Peter Jackson, who will executive-produce the
movies, has made it clear he won't direct them, the trade paper reported.

Hell, a morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural
curse, will go into production early next year. It will be financed
through Ghost House, a joint venture Raimi and Rob Tapert formed several
years ago with Mandate Pictures.

Raimi and Tapert will produce with Grant Curtis, and Josh Donen will
executive-produce with Mandate's Nathan Kahane and Joe Drake.

Tapert said the Raimis wrote the script well before the formation of
Ghost House. It was originally written under the title The Curse and
completed right after the siblings collaborated on 1992's Army of
Darkness, which Sam Raimi directed.

[scifinoir2] 4400 Is Canceled

2007-12-20 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
Peters: 4400 Is Canceled
http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index.php?category=0id=46613
Scott Peters, creator of USA Network's The 4400, announced on the show's
official forum that the series has been canceled.

It's with great sadness that I pass along to you the information I've
just received: The 4400 has been canceled, Peters wrote on Dec. 18.
We've had a great time bringing you this story and submersing you in
the lives of all these incredible characters. Thank you especially to
the folks on the board here whose tireless devotion to the show is
nothing short of remarkable.

Cast member Jacqueline McKenzie posted her own reaction to the news on
her MySpace.com page. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone
here for writing those petitions! she said, referring to a fan campaign
to save the show. I know I speak for all the cast: We really appreciate
the support and dedication of our fans! Thank you!

Peters, who is also an executive producer, said that he broke the news
to cast member Joel Gretsch. We had a great talk about what we all
accomplished and how much we'll miss our family that is our crew and our
cast ... and our fans, Peters wrote. But at least we got to go out
with a bang! I had an awesome time directing the last episode. I think I
got to make almost every single cast member cry (on camera). How much
fun was that?

Peters helmed the final episode of the series, The Great Leap Forward,
which aired on Sept. 16, 2007. The show ran for four seasons on USA.
(USA Network is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.)

[scifinoir2] Wayans in GI Joe?

2007-12-20 Thread Tracey de Morsella (formerly Tracey L. Minor)
Wayans in Joe?
Heavy G.I. Joe casting buzz.
by IGN Staff
http://movies.ign.com/articles/842/842579p1.html

December 19, 2007 - The G.I. Joe casting news just keeps coming!
Yesterday, we relayed multiple reports that P2 actress Rachel Nichols
and South Korean film star Byung-hun Lee had been cast as Scarlett and
Storm Shadow. IGN checked with contacts at Paramount Pictures who
confirmed that the two actors have indeed been cast in the Stephen
Sommers-directed production.

Today, there's even more Joe casting buzz with the role of Heavy Duty
rumored to go to a somewhat surprising choice. According to
BlackFilm.com, Marlon Wayans has been offered the part of the heavy
ordinance specialist and wanna-be chef. It's up to Wayans, of course, to
accept.

The offer is surprising in that Wayans doesn't exactly have the build we
would've expected for a character like Heavy Duty. It'd be much easier
to picture someone like Omar Epps, Wayans' BFF, in the role... but we
digress. Should the Requiem for a Dream and Scary Movie star join the
cast, he's gonna need to hit the gym and bulk up in order to meet fan
expectations.

Heavy Duty, a.k.a. Lamont Morris, first appeared in issue #130 of the
G.I. Joe comic.

Other confirmed Joe cast members are Ray Park, who's playing Snake Eyes,
and Sienna Miller, who is set to play The Baroness.

The live-action film will be casting up quickly for a February
production start, so keep watching for more news. G.I. Joe is set to
open on August 7, 2009.

Will we have elves doing martial arts now?

i am worried, still, that Jackson isn't going to direct. The only hope is that
he, Fran, and the rest have major influence on the script and tone. And i can
at least take heart in the fact that WETA will handle the FX, as I've never
been impressed with the effects in the Spider-Man films, which have always been
too obviously CGI...

[scifinoir2] Credit cards after death

2007-12-20 Thread Reece Jennings

This is so easy to see happening, customer service being what it is today.

A lady died this past January, and Citibank billed her for February and
March for their annual service charges on her credit card, and then added
late fees and interest on the monthly charge. The balance had been $0.00,
now is somewhere around $60.00! A family member placed a call to Citibank:

. Family Member: I am calling to tell you that she died in January.

. Bank: The account was never closed and the late fees and charges
still apply.

. Family Member: Maybe, you should turn it over to collections.

. Bank: Since it is two months past due, it already has been.

. Family Member: So, what will they do when they find out she is dead?

. Bank: Either report her account to the frauds division or report
her to the credit bureau, maybe both!

. Family Member: Do you think God will be mad at her?

. Bank: Excuse me?

. Family Member: Did you just get what I was telling you - the part
about her being dead?

. Bank: Sir, you'll have to speak to my supervisor.

Supervisor gets on the phone:

o Family Member: I'm calling to tell you, she died in January.

o Bank: The account was never closed and the late fees and charges still
apply.

o Family Member: You mean you want to collect from her estate?

o Bank: (Stammer) Are you her lawyer?

o Family Member: No, I'm her great nephew. (Lawyer info given) o Bank:
Could you fax us a certificate of death?

o Family Member: Sure. (fax number is given) After they get the fax:

. Bank: Our system just isn't set-up for death. I don't know what more I
can do to help.

. Family Member: Well, if you figure it out, great! If not, you could just
keep billing her. I don't think she will care.

. Bank: Well, the late fees and charges do still apply.

. Family Member: Would you like her new billing address?

. Bank: That might help.

. Family Member: Odessa Memorial Cemetery , Highway 129, Plot Number 69.

. Bank: Sir, that's a cemetery! !

. Family Member: What do you do with dead people on your planet?

It started with Six Degrees Of Seperation in my humble opinion...

Well, that brings us full circle back to my question: why does a man

 love interest in a film?

Will Smith actually owns his own production company Overbrook
Entertainment. I think he pretty much does whatever he wants to at
 this point.

 This is from the IMDB:

Graduate of Philly's legendary Overbrook High School, whose alumni
include Wilt Chamberlain, Hal Lear, Wali Jones, Walt Hazzard, The
Dovells, The Orlons, DeeDee Sharp, etc. and in tribute to his student
years there, his production company is called Overbrook
 Entertainment.

The company produce the following movies:

Ali, Showtime, I-Robot, Hitch, Saving Face, ATL, and Pursuit of
 Happiness.

Agreed. Most at his level have made just that move, but for some

At this point, it's pretty much possible for an established star
  to
put their own production company together, pick a project they
  want,

  something
together for a couple million dollars if he wanted to.

Look at some of the stuff Clooney has done (Good Night, Good
  Luck) or
the Bobby Kennedy movie. These were projects the creators
  believed
in, so they made them happen.

Maybe when his kids are older.

Now that you bring this up I can't even remember a movie of his

Union, Janet, Halle, or one of them sisters for a role. But i
  guess
   cause
he's in sci-fi so much that a lot of his roles didn't call for

  maybe he
