UK, November 8, 2007 - The recent casting speculation over the identity
of the actor to play Captain Pike in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek remake
appears to be over as it was announced today that Bruce Greenwood has
  secured the part.

In the past few weeks Josh Lucas and even Tom Cruise have been rumoured
to be playing the original Captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, but,
according to The Hollywood Reporter, the craggy character actor is now
  confirmed for the role.

The 51-year-old Greenwood has appeared in many bit-part roles down the
years, in the likes of I, Robot, The Core, Capote, and perhaps most
memorably, as President Kennedy in the Cuban Missile Crisis drama
  Thirteen Days.
