Re: [scifinoir2] Microsoft's New Slogan: Hey, It Could Be Worse

2010-07-28 Thread Mr. Worf
The ads have been running about a year. What they were looking for was a
"man's man" type of mascot for the company. He's not James Bond but just as
dynamic and yet whimsical. Not as cool as the Old Spice man but old school.

I don't think they knew either. Some of the lines, like, "Sharks have a week
named for him" gets my funny bone rolling, but that last one you quoted,
Keith, leaves me scratching my head.

2010-07-27 Thread Keith Johnson
Yeah it's pretty bad. Another I just don't get is that "He is...the most
interesting man in the world", for Dos Equis. That is, I get the idea, i just
don't respond to it. I know a lot of guys who love it, but I don't laugh or
anything at "His mom has a tattoo that reads 'son'", or, "if he hit you, you'd
have to resist the urge to thank him".

Not sure what was going on in the room when the ad boys tossed ideas around for
that one...

The first campaign should have been "I use a PC and don't know any
better..." The new one should be "Its Windows 7, still better than Windows
ME..."
